The best place for chinese food in Waukesha 8/14/2010

On my first visit, I got a friendly greeting from our server Lauren. She suggested cantonese combintion loo mein and kungpoa chicken - mild. We also noticed they had american food and fish fries. Our food came out fast and it looked appealing and hot. It had good flavor and large portions. Lauren refilled our soda and packed up the left overs. We had a very good meal and time at Golden Gate, we will be back to try the fish fry, it looked good in the table next to us. more

6/2010\r \r I really don't understand some peoples poor tastes. To the reviewers who left bad remarks; take your bad comments and go back to real garbage like New China Buffet. That's where your comments belong, not here at Golden Gate. You all must be on serious drugs/meds to put this place down. How sad.\r \r Anyways..... This place wins awards and was featured (actually cooking on channel 6 news) for good reasons. They do this stuff right and I've never been disappointed (except for a buffet once and they didn't charge me and I picked from the menu). The food is served hot and fresh like it deserves to be. We also had a dinner for 4 and the server presented us with hot dish after hot dish and never wavered in his professionalism. He represented the place very well. Everything was great!\r \r This place deserves a try. Sorry to hear others had a bad experience here......\r \r Don't believe me??? Go read the reviews on yahoo.com (local).... more

The mongolian beef was not like any I have ever had before and definitly the worst I've ever had. This was the worst chinese food I've ever eaten and my husband agreed. I had heard great reviews and heard it rocked... well I must have caught them two times on a really bad day! I paid almost 13 dollars for a half-full quart of sweet and sour chicken with tons of sauce and no chicken. The menu price was also different when I got there... Don't be fooled by the exterior, amazing food! 8/15/2008

I have to admit- I was pretty skeptical when a friend took me here. The old strip mall location definitely doesn't suit the quality of the restaurant! \r \r I've had takeout and have dined here, and the food is always consistent in taste and quality. Definitely the best in Waukesha, if you're in the mood for American Chinese, I wouldn't look elsewhere. more

One of the Best Places I been to for the first time and we will be back. 9/9/2007

I have been living in Waukesha for over 20 years, going by this little shopping center on Racine Ave and never noticed a chinese restaurant in there. I saw them on channel 4 news when they won a award for "Top 100 Chinese Restaurant in America", it was my first time entering. They have a large menu with lots of choices in both chinese and american food. We had Chicken Kow and Kungpao Shrimp both were large portions and delicious. The restaurant is family runned, our server was David and the greeter was Brian, both are the owners son, both were great. After dinner we had a couple of Mai Tai and played on their video slot machines. more

Best Place to Eat, Drink & Meet Friends 8/29/2007

Golden Gate Restaurant (also known as: Chinese Cheers, Amy's Place, or Top 100) is the best place to eat, drink and meet friends. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful (they are really have full service - the bartender even fixed my computer while I was having a Mai Tai). Their food is tasty, portions are big (enough for lunch tommorrow) and price is very reasonable. Just ask Chef Amy and she will cook anything you like to the way you want it (even if its not on the menu, I even seen them make Elk Steaks Venison Burgers, Pizza and Spaghetti). They are really a ""Top 100 Chinese Restaurant in America"" they won the award last year ranking #2 in the USA. They have a very large menu to select from (Chinese & American Food). My favorite dishes are Cantonese Combination Chow Mein, Hong Kong Steak, Friday Fish Fries and Mongolian Beef. I have been eating there for over 15 years and I have not found any place better (my car knows how to get there by itself). See you there. Pros: Food is cooked to order to your desire Cons: It's a little had to find - but well worth the trip more

Best place for Chinese food and a cocktail in the greater Waukesha area, hands down. 9/21/2006

The Gate is tucked backed in a little shopping center in downtown Waukesha, where its been for over 20 years. The food is the absolute best in the Waukesha area and the portions are quite large for the price. The owners and staff are very friendly, the service is quick, and every time I take someone new there they always love the atmosphere. I highly recommend checking out Golden Gate and don't forget to try their Fish Fry on Fridays, delicious. Pros: Food, bar, prices Cons: hard to find, but that's the way it should be more

They are really the Top 100 Restaurant in America 2/16/2006

I have be there many times and since they were voted top 100 chinese restaurant in america they have done some remodeling. There food has always be one of the best in the Waukesha/Milwaukee Area. It is a long drive for us but well worth it. Very friendly service. Pros: Inexpensive, Parking, Open Bar Cons: Hard to Find more

Better Than Most 12/22/2004

Of the restaurants of this type in the area, this one has had the best quality food. The selection is a bit lacking, especially for lunch. The decor could use an update, as well. Service was okay.
