This is one of the worst chineese resturants I have ever eaten at, as far as the food is concerned. If you like piles of mediocre chineese food, this is the place. The rice was dry and a bit under done, all of the food tastes the same. I couldnt tell the difference between the chicken and the beef and all of the vegatables tasted the same too. Avoid this place. Uninspiring is probably the best I can say for Golden Crown... Greasy egg rolls, vegetables stir fried to the point of flaccidity, tasteless dishes, mediocre service, dark atmosphere, and high prices all combine for an interesting (in the Chinese sense of the word) dining experience. I live in SE Portland and I've been going to the Golden Crown for years and I must say that I love it. It starts with the totally cool round building and unintentionally retro decor and continues with fast, friendly service. I'm one of those people who sticks to the same thing but I must say, the food I DO get is terrific. I usually get the #1 combo which consists of pork fried rice, chicken subgum chow mein, fried shrimp and sesame chicken. Now, ya know how a lot of Chinese food places give you that low-grade fatty chicken? I HATE that! The sesame chicken here is lean white meat chicken breast. It's crispy battered with sesame seeds and is A D D I C T I V E! I've never had a bad experience here. I don't usually write reviews but this place is worth it. This place is great. Try going on a weeknight and it's like you have the entire place to yourself. The food is good and you get alot for your money. The main waitress is nice and the building is massive! I recommend this place to anybody if you want a quiet relaxing place to eat Chinese food. After seeing all the glowing reviews, my wife and I decided to head on down the street to have dinner here. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken and my wife had the Mongolian Beef. When our food arrived, the only way we could tell them apart was by cutting it open and guessing as to chicken or beef. They had the same sauce, and boy, was it a lousy sauce. Whenever we want EXCELLENT Chinese, we head all the way from SE Portland to the Golden Crown. Their BBQ pork and Pot Stickers are must have appetizers. Also good are the hot chicken salad and Szechuan Duck. ALWAYS great service, food, AWESOME cocktails (heavy on the alcohol- have a sober driver:)), and always worth the trip! Since this place is in walking distance of my house its great for getting trashed, a little karaoke, some cheap bar snacks, and a short walk home. I have never eatten the resturant food, but the bar food is well worth the $1.95/item. The waitress is always nice and keeps the drinks comming. Its got this late 60's early 70's funky decor going on. Check out the ladies bathroom for some very retro wallpaper. more
