My daughter is in the horse project for Washington County and hopefully an exhibitor for the entire fair dates. Our fair grounds have a shortage of horse stalls for the amount of children that participate in the horse project., so the board has decided to hold a lottery and children are chosen randomly to trailer in on show dates. It is Thursday nite, 4 days before the fair is to start, and now they are making phone calls to give the heart breaking news to 17 random children. These kids work all year for fair... to be a paricipant and show off there exhibits.. art or animal. Previously, they have put up tents or had extra equine in the Draft Horse barn. The board has decided not to do that this year... The 17 children chosen, have to trailer in and out their horse when they are showing which can be everyday?? They have to tie their horse to their trailer and have their horse attended at all times.. Does this really make sense. Some people have volunteered to trailer in and out... but I think there should have been additional options instead of a lottery of elimination. Additional stalls?? And to have to tell your child in the last 4 days?? What is with this board?? Isnt the fair about the kids?? Public should know what is going on...
Pros: Kids get to participate
Cons: Having their animal at the fair the whole time
