Tim & Renee Shimek founded Glowing Hearth in 2002, but Tim has been working in the fireplace business since he was 9 year old. In 1975, Tim's Mom told his Dad, Ron, she wanted a freestanding fireplace in their home. Ron decided to build one himself and built the first ever Heat-N-Glo fireplace in their garage (Savage, MN) a month later. Within the year, Ron's brother Dan would join him to start the Heat-N-Glo fireplace manufacturing business. They did not realize at the time they were on the path to become the largest fireplace manufacturer in the world. Tim continued to work with his father every summer along with his brothers. In 1987, Heat-N-Glo created a product that would revolutionize the industry-The Direct Vent Gas Fireplace, making it possible to install a fireplace in virtually any room of the home. Other companies jumped aboard to use this remarkable technology and today there are more brands to choose from. Tim along with his wife Renee (Glowing Hearth) over the past 11 years have continued to keep Ron's dream alive by expanding builder business, retail business, and adding fireplace showrooms. There are now three Glowing Hearth & Home locations (Jordan, Burnsville, and Mankato).
