Independent Doctors of Optometry
Eye exams are available by Independent Doctors of Optometry inside or next to your nearest Eyemart Express, Vision4Less, VisionMart Express and Eyewear Express.
Optometrists are state-licensed healthcare professionals that provide primary eye care services. They examine, diagnose eye and retinal diseases; and treat vision conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. In addition, most optometrists are trained to provide the following services:
Management of eye diseases
Diagnosis of related systemic conditions
Contact lens fitting
Identification of other vision problems
What to Expect
Eye exams are a quick and easy process that should be performed annually, as your vision may change over time and an exam can detect serious health issues such as diabetes.
During your eye exam, your Independent Doctor of Optometry might ask you general questions about your health and lifestyle in order to gain insight into your vision needs. The eye exam will measure:
Your general eye health
Your overall vision
Your color vision and depth perception
Any indications of potential problems, such as glaucoma, retinal issues, or cataracts
Your Results
Have your optometrist explain your exam results to you, so that you know how your vision has changed over time. If your optometrist discovers any complications or early indicators of potential problems, they may refer you to an appropriate specialist. Your prescription will be good for 1-2 years (depending on your state). You should schedule another visit within the next year because your vision needs may change..
