Mason Family Eye Care began when Dr. Glen A. Linsley, a 1976 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, decided to return to his home state of Michigan to set up a private practice. Having been raised on a farm near Charlotte, Michigan, Dr. Glen’s rural upbringing drew him to Mason’s quaint, small-town ambience. That summer, he opened his first office on Ash Street. At that time, the practice was known as simply “Dr. Glen A. Linsley, Optometrist.â€
Three years later, his brother Ed came on board as the practice’s optician, beginning what would become a life-long partnership. Dr. Glen would examine patients’ eyes and prescribe spectacles and contact lenses; Ed would assist patients with frame selection and ordering of lenses. Ed became known in the community for his genius in patients’ eyeware and spectacle repairs. Together, Dr. Glen and Ed became known to many in the Mason community as “the Linsley brothers.â€
As the practice grew, so did the need for a larger office. In 1981, Dr. Glen moved his practice to its current location at 109 E. Maple St. Eventually the practice became known as “Dr. Glen A. Linsley Family Eye Care.†Through the next thirty years, Dr. Glen, Ed and support staff served the eye care needs of Mason families in a way that was personal, professional and trustworthy.
In 2010, Dr. Glen’s eldest son Chad graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and joined the practice as its second optometrist. The following year, both doctors celebrated their first year of practice together by traveling to Kenya to prescribe and dispense spectacles and ocular pharmaceuticals for 380 Kenyans in four days. Exhausted but renewed, they returned to Mason ready to enter their second year of practice together.
Today the practice is known as Mason Family Eye Care and continues to provide both vision and medical eye care to families in Mason, the greater Lansing area, and beyond.
