My wife and I chanced upon Gioia's in North Berkeley which claims to be NY-Style pizza. I got a slice of pepperoni and my wife got sausage/mushroom. Toppings were okay but I think what sets pizza apart is the crust- which was definitely crispy and chewy. I felt that $3/slice was a bit steep for what you get. The slices were far smaller than any pizza I've had in New York. It seems as if they have heritage - if that's what's important to you in your pizza dining experience. I think the average diner would need 2 slices to have any semblance of fullness.
