Gervais & Vine

We just moved here from Dallas and immediately tried almost every restaurant recommended to us. Some were great (Terra, Rosso, Motor Supply), some were okay, some were downright lousy. Our neighbors told us about Gervais & Vine and it's now our favorite place. Not only is the food fantastic, but they always have a new wine that blows me away. more

you wont find a more pompous staff in all of columbia. granted the food is very good and the theme behind the restaurant is a great one...but it gives no excuse for the snobby attitude the waitresses put off. maybe they are too successful? i guess there's no such thing. \r but in order to keep from sounding like Tracy G below (she doesnt like anything that isnt a chain) i'll give credit where credit is due...Columbia needs more places like this...independently owned and well versed in unique, fresh foods. just lose the attitude ladies! more

After reading some of the reviews of this place, my friends and I decided to stop in one weekend. First off, YES, they are very busy on the weekends. We waited for a lot less than we were told by the hostess, but after being in the business during college, I realize that waiting times aren't an exact science. While we waited, we ordered a spritzy Spanish white that was fantastic (Pescador, I think). Once seated, we had an absolutely perfect dining experience. The server was helpful and explained how everything worked, which was helpful since tapas seem to come out when the kitchen makes them, not all together. The list of items on the menu was impressive and the quality was unreal. You have to get their scallops. They are THE BEST. We ordered way too much food, but had a blast trying everything. Since that visit, we've been back several times and have never been disappointed. \r \r PROS: Fantastic food, great wine list, stellar service\r CONS: Very busy, so expect to wait on weekends more

I'm not sure what city Gervais and Vine think they are in, but being in Columbia -- they need to check their attitude. The first time I tried to go to this place, it was closed for a private party (on a Saturday night!). The next time, I stood outside in the cold with my companion for an hour, only to see larger groups get taken before us. After asking the girl three times and being told "just 10 more minutes," we left. I will never go back. \r \r Gervais and Vine -- you're not a hip club in LA or NY, so get over yourselves and treat your customers better. more

Uesd to be amazing. My last two visits were average at best. Red wine was so warm it was almost hot. The foie gras was awful and it was three of us there that all felt the same. I hope it was just a few off nights. more

Can't wait to return--the same owners of Gervais & Vine also own my other favorite, Solstice Kitchen & Wine Bar in NEast. Superb date and special occasion place. Incredible service, food was outstanding and ambience is bar none for the midlands. Can't wait to return to GV and Solstice! Pros: Tapas, service Cons: Absolutely none more

Very nice to find a place in the Vista to dine outside. The 'small plates' are perfect for sharing and trying lots of different things. The salad with strawberries and almonds is great, but the best thing on the menu has to be the pork tenderloin. Plan on spending the evening here, you won't want to leave. Pros: Menu and wine selection, and location Cons: Live music inside, but it is filled with smoke more

I'm really impressed by this place. I've traveled to Spain alot and this place holds up against all of them. Sitting at the bar, you can watch the chefs prepare your tapas while you chat with them. The style is Mediterranean-esque and is reasonably priced for what you get. I wish they'd make some of the portions smaller and charge less, but when you split a bunch of items with friends, everyone has enough to try. The staff is really knowledgable and fun. The guys that own it also own Mr. Friendly's and another place, but I can't recall the name. I plan on trying them, too. If they're half as good as this place, I'd be in heaven. When I first moved to Columbia, I was afraid there weren't any good restaurants. This place has proven that theory wrong! Heck, it's better than Mario Batali's tapas bar in NYC! Keep in mind this is mainly a tapas bar, and the menu is made up of, essentially, appetizers. The wine list is decent, and the servers have always been fabulous. They offer to bring out a taste of wine if you are having a difficult time deciding, and are very knowledgeable about the menu itself. Don't like onions? They can tell you if what you want has them. Want a white wine that's sweet, but not 'too' sweet? She'll have a recommendation on that, too. Wonderful, wonderful service, and a great atmosphere. Plus, you can take your menu home with you! I love it! PROS: Great wine list, great appetizers (tapas), nice atmosphere CONS: Expensive, very crowded on weekends more

Gervais and Vince can get pretty crowded on the weekends. Don't let this deter you from visiting this great tapas bar. They have lots of good wine and tapas for any taste. The service is excellent . And the dessert is a hit. PROS: good food, drink and service. CONS: slightly pricey more
