Morristown, NJ is known for its historical part in the revolutionary war. George and Martha's fittingly takes from this history as a "country", old fashioned, hearty food restaurant. The decor is a mix of old and new, with a autumn-colored theme and exposed brick walls. It has a large dining area, but since it's new in town, there is usually a wait.
I visited for lunch and had a vegetable soup to start. It was pretty good, but filled with mainly potatoes. Next I had a spring salad that was so big and filling! I substituted chicken for duck, which was not a problem, and there were cranberries and nuts as well that accompanied a fruity dressing. My friend had a turkey sandwich, and the turkey was not deli meat, but real pieces carved from a whole bird.
That was a surprising touch that made the meal authentic and "home made."
Our waiter seemed a big frazzled or out of it, so it took a while to get our drinks and food. That aside, the food was good and I would like to go back and try the dinner menu. There are also funny pictures of George and Martha Washington that adorn the walls.
