Editorial review from Citysearch 2/13/2014

I wish, wish, wish I had researched this place and read the reviews prior to my appointment today. The joke is clearly on me because there was nothing gentle about the dental ""service"" I received today. I was referred here for a tooth extraction by Baker Hill Dental & Simply Dental. I was okay with the referral because I was told Dr. Al-Subak (who had done my root canal at Baker Hill previously and he was really great) would perform the extraction but he comes in the office only on certain days. So I make the appointment for the extraction, I was told 5pm is fine. I get there at 5, I have to fill out paperwork, my X-rays weren't sent over from Baker Hill so I was told I needed to have X-rays. By the time I get to see the Dr, it's not Dr Al-Subak, it's Dr Sway (still not a problem) and it's after 5:30pm. Dr Sway precedes to tell me that yes, my wisdom tooth is impacted and must be extracted (which I already knew, hence the referral from his business colleagues) but he may not be able to do it tonight since it's so late and there are other patients with appointments coming. I'm like wait, I made this appointment and rearranged my personal and work schedule to have this tooth extracted (not to mention I'm in pain). He says let me check out your plan?? After 10 minutes, the receptionist comes in to let me know my plan will cover 80% and was I prepared to pay my portion, I told her yes but I'm not sure if I am even getting the procedure done tonight, 2 minutes later Dr Sway comes in and says he can do the procedure tonight (yaay, great!). Here's where things go downhill: he preceded to numb my gums using the topical gel and then immediately jammed the needle for the (nova cane?) directly into my gums 3 times. He said the needle is the worst part..mmmkay..He didn't wait at all for the topical to kick in. It was extremely rough and painful (I have had cavities filled and a root canal, they give the gel time to numb the outer gum prior to inserting the needle). I felt everything was rushed. I was so upset because of how rough he was and how much it hurt, I was literally in tears. He asked if I could feel the medicine kicking in, I told him not really, he wanted to test the area so I allowed him to poke my gum area, I could still feel pain. The whole time, all I am thinking is how wrong and unprofessional this feels. Dr Sway then suggests I need more numbing medicine and presents the needle again and that's all it took. I said no thanks, I can't have this done here and took the bib off. I told him I didn't feel comfortable as he already told me he didn't have time, I should have taken the hint then and I felt he was rushing through it and my jaw was paying the penalty. To be fair, he tried to explain he was okay with staying and he acknowledged I was upset, it was just too late for me. I have never had such a negative experience with a dentist in all my life. So many things can go wrong with a perfect wisdom tooth extraction, I don't gamble with my health or my instincts and I definitely didn't appreciate paying this Dr to be mishandled. Needless to say, I wont be returning to this place for my tooth extraction. I strongly suggest that Gentle Dental get their bedside manner in line with the spirit of the company name. It would behoove all involved to to make the necessary changes to ensure the company name does not become synonymous with this poor customer service as the pen is mightier than the sword (and the needle). I will be in contact with my dental insurance company as well to ensure there are no charges outside of services actually rendered. more
