Geek Squad Alternative 8/5/2010

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a “No Fix No Pay” guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn’t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn’t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer. more

too good to be true! 5/19/2010

My name is Catherine Herbert and I don't know much about computers. At some point in the last month I believe my computer became infected with a virus. It was making my internet run very slow and I was unable to email my grandson away in Iraq. This being my only way to communicate with him I became very distressed. I wasn't confident enough to be able to attempt to fix it myself. Besides I hear hammers and computers don't go well together. :) \r \r I got in touch with the local geek squad and dropped my machine off. For $199.99 and three days of work they said they would have it up and running better than ever! This didn’t go down like the nice gentleman wearing black trousers had promised. 7 Business days later, I still had a broken computer and a quote for $449 to remove viruses, fix the hard drive and install antivirus software. Not happy with this price, and already out $200, I started calling a few acquaintances. \r One suggestion I received was to call Secure Remote Support. I called their toll free number to inquire about the cost and was told that they could remove my virus for $79.99 and could do it either by remotely connecting or if I preferred I could send the computer in to them. For time saving purposes, I chose to have them remotely connect and was assured if they could not fix the problem there would be no charge for their time. I liked the sound of that so I took them up on it. After about and hour the computer was repaired and I was ready to email again! No need to replace the hard drive. They did also sell me this antivirus software for another $59.99. It also came with a guarantee as well. They definitely did a great job, and Ill be thinking twice before going anywhere else. more

Think Twice 3/31/2010

My son got a horrible virus on his computer from Myspace. It was causing the computer the run very slowly and it had nonstop pop-ups. I was frustrated because when his computer is down he wants to use mine, and I need mine for work. I took it in to Geek Squad to have the virus removed and to have some updated virus protection installed. \r When I went into the store, I told the salesman what was going on and he said he'd take care of the problem. While I was talking to the salesman, he kept trying to persuade me to purchase additional services like optimization and insisted I buy additional memory otherwise Id have big problems later down the road. I explained that its my sons computer, and that he doesnt use it for anything except music and social networking. He didnt need all the extra trinkets. He kept pushing the issue until I flat out told him if he didnt want to preform the services I asked for, and ONLY the services I asked for then I was taking my computer elsewhere. After that he was short with me and said the machine would be ready in tree days.\r I have never been so disappointed with customer service. If I go into Safeway to buy apples, nobody is going to pressure me into buying oranges as well. Three days later, I picked up the computer and the repairs were done, and I was charged $220 dollars. When I had gotten home I had found that the computer was running without any pop ups but still seemed to be extremely slow and not functioning like it had before it had been infected. I started doing some research on Geek Squad and I found a company called Secure Remote Support and called them completely out of curiosity, and was floored to learn their rates were MUCH lower than those of Geek Squad and they guarantee customer satisfaction or your money back. I asked them if they would diagnose the issues, which they did for free. They informed me that all of the infections werent removed and that there were still traces of the major infection as well as many many others that were affecting the speed and over usability of the machine. I asked them to document all of this, as they did, and then hired them to repair the problem, which they did. They offered me a upsell, which was a promotional optimization I took it, and it did what they said it would do. The computer appears to be working better than when I first purchased it actually, so I'm quite pleased. I was able to take that documentation and fax it into the headquarters, and file with the BBB to get my money refunded from Geek Squad. Im a happy camper, the computer is one piece and secureremotesupport-dot-com saved the day as far as im concerned. \r more

This Review is FALSE and written by Secure Remote Support 3/16/2010

What you are about to read is false and was written by a company called secure remote support to promote their business by ""piggybacking"" Geeks Squads Reviews. How many times do I have to leave a message before I am inclined to think you don't have any intention on making good on their promise of a refund for not completing the service I paid for. i took them my pc to have virus's removed and picked it up a week later. When I got it home I noticed that they had not done anything at all to it. I still was getting pop ups and was being redirected to some explicit website. There is no way that this had been fixed by them because I would hope they double check their work. I have called multiple times and left messages everytime and still have not had a call back in over a week. I am a student and need this machine for my school work and am fearing that it may affect my grades this term. I have finals this week and am now having to borrow money to have someone else take care of my computer problems. Cons: Rip offs, Bad Service & theives more
