Geek Squad Alternative 8/5/2010

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a “No Fix No Pay” guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn’t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn’t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer. more

SUCKS. 3/18/2010

After my son went away to college I no longer had someone at home to fix my computer for me.\r Seeing as im almost entirely computer illerate, I needed someone trustworthy that wouldnt BS me when I needed something done. \r When my computer for a virus, I figured going to Geek Squad was a safe bet because they're such a big company, and very well known.\r When I went into the store I to have my machine checked out, I was spoken to in some forgin tech-language that was like Swahili to me and I didnt understand a lick of it.\r Ok, I figured. At least they know what theyre talking about.\r Well, long story short, these guys had my PC for six days until I called to see if it was finished.\r They told me they were still diagnosing the problem and that they would begin repairs within a couple days.\r I was shocked to hear they hadnt even started fixing it yet! \r Then, another five days later I was called and told it was finished, I could come pick it up.\r When I went to get it back, I was ""greeted"" by a sales associate that was much happier texting on her cell phone than providing service.\r That irked me a bit. Then when I saw my total I was floored.\r Nearly FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. \r Again, the tech-language flooded my ears and I didnt have a clue what they were talking about while they explained what I was paying for.\r \r After talking with my son about my experience, he laughed and told me I should have checked with him first.\r He referred me to a company called Secure Remote Support if I had any future problems.\r A month or so later, I ended up needing more help so I called them and I was so pleased with the service.\r They spoke to me in simple english, were kind and were FAR more affordable than Geek Squad.\r Im so thankful my son knew about these guys, otherwise Im sure a big chunk of his tuition would end up in Geek Squad's pockets.\r www.SecureRemoteSupport(dot)com will get all my future business!\r Pros: Local Cons: Everything more
