Gay Dolphin Gift Cove 4/16/2006

My family and I visit Myrtle Beach every summer. I have going as long as I can remember. We always visit the Gay Dolphin. We may not always buy anything, but we love to go and look. They sell everything from saltwater taffy to shark’s teeth/jaws to T-shirts and art work. They also have this talk staircase that takes you to the top of the building. It’s too high for me. But my children love it. more

Huge Multi-level gift shop 10/23/2005

This is a very interesting place to browse, and I have bought some stuff here... but it is way overpriced. It is on the "strip" in Myrtle Beach, so it is really a tourist trap. There is a really cool counter with tons of shark's teeth, some prehistoric. The upper level is all authentic (expensive) Native American stuff. more

Very fun place 10/17/2005

Don’t let the name scare you, everyone is welcome! Lots of Myrtle Beach goodies to load your bags with. Only sad part is the dead animal department filled with needlessly sacrificed sea stars, sand dollars, sea horses and other assorted carnage. Lots of cheap mugs, magnets, and salt water taffy. This place is a Myrtle Beach institution you can’t miss. more

A Grand Strand Tradition! 10/8/2005

You cannot miss the Gay Dolphin on "the strip"--it is located across the street from Ripley's Believe it or Not and has a very large dolphin on the sign. The store has many levels (Too many for me to remember how many) and has every sort of souvenir you could ever imagine. They have a very large selection of various shells and dried aquatic creatures (like seahorses) to choose from, and have even more artwork made from seashells as well. There are your run of the mill t-shirts, shot-glasses, pens, pencils, etc. There is also a large selection of novelty and gag gifts as well. This is a must see for anyone visiting Myrtle Beach. more

Don't pay attention to the name! It's SAFE FOR KIDS! 9/30/2005

Seriously---I know alot of people who have misgivings about the Gay Dolphin just because of the name. The Gay Dolphin (as in, "happy dolphin") has been a Myrtle Beach mainstay for as long as I can remember. The store is right on the "Strip" and it is HUGE. I mean "smithsonian institute" huge. Multi levels, and every single thing you never thought you needed until your kids reminded you that yes, you DO need a bag full of sea-horse skeletons, thank you. They've got shells out the yahoo, toys, bric-a-brack...I mean, it's like trying to describe how many angels can dance on the head of a pin---> completely impossible. IMPOSSIBLE. This is THE place to go in MB for souvenirs. They've really got something for everyone here. Gag gifts galore, monkeys made out of shells, shell monkeys sitting on shell toilets under a shell tree....I tell ya...there's gotta be a shell shortage from all the shells they have at this store BUT IT DOESN'T END AT SHELLS. Go here. If you don't then you have not experienced Myrtle Beach. more
