Gateway buys produce from wholesalers in the area and across the country. On a given day you'll find huge packing boxes of hundreds of pounds of several types of apples and oranges, all manner of vegetables, flour by the 20# bag, milk, cereal, etc. There is a good variety.
--- Some of these items appear to be ""seconds"" that Fred Meyer would pass on. But I've shopped there a dozen times and found much good fruit and vegetables there every time, always for much lower prices, sometimes for a quarter of the price. Today, for example, they were selling navel oranges for 67? per pound. It is well worth the time and gas it takes to get there. ---
I also see it as a concerted attempt to minister to the poor.
Pros: Plentiful produce at excellent prices
Cons: No ""organic"" produce, few spices
