Very knowledgeable; highly recommended 2/11/2009

Refreshing experience. After seeing and being ""treated"" by other doctors and clinics I can say without reservation that he has been the most helpful for my condition. He accepted my insurance and even worked through the red tape to get the necessary tests and treatment approved. I am very thankful... Pros: Advanced training and procedures, accepts PPOs, Cons: No late or Saturday appointments more

I would not bring my dog there. 1/29/2009

This guy is the worst doctor In LA. He uncaring, discusting, dishonest and rude. Stay far away as possible. Pros: I will never see him again more

Great Physician!! 12/8/2008

I would highly recommend Dr. Karyotakis! I was being bounced from one doctor to another and he found the problem no one else could. He takes the time to speak to you and he does call you back. His office staff is very nice and are quick to schedule you in. Cons: That I didnt know of him sooner. more

Mixed Up 11/23/2008

Read the other reviews, which seem to be pretty divided so I'm gonna put myself somewhere in the middle and try to be objective. Frankly, I got a little bit of both the caring professional and the dismissive attitude. I was looking for a female Doc, thinking I'd be more comfortable, being female myself. However the first appt went fairly well and he seemed really interested in helping me out, literally saying ""Don't worry, we'll figure this out"", so I thought, OK I was wrong in my assumptions. He did recommend an endoscopy immediately, which seemed fair - I mean how else are you gonna know what's going on in there? The only thing was part of the procedure wasn't covered by the insurance and had to come out of my pocket. I felt his office had dropped the ball in doing their homework b/c it turned out there was an alternative procedure that WAS covered but I was not informed of this. I trusted he and his office knew what was best. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and saw him again for the follow up. Again, he was personable and friendly but started talking about a possible need to do a colonoscopy. Now, I knew a little bit about this since I'd done my own research and had at one time been pre-med myself (which he didn't know). I knew I was low risk, due to my age and there was nothing indicative in my family history. I saw no reason to undergo the procedure at the time. Meanwhile, I had been prescribed medication, which only helped a little. Wasn't seeing a lot of improvement. No response to my calls. So after the course of meds had been completed I did another follow up. This time his demeanor was so different: a 180 degree turn. I kind of got my feelings hurt a little. I blame the sensitivity on being pretty out of it for months: lethargic, tired all the time, severely depressed - it began affecting work. I described this to the Doc but I don't think he was listening. He just gave me meds that were unnecessary. That's my story: You decide. I've given up. more

Excellent Doctor 4/4/2008

After reading some of these reviews, I have to completely disagree. Dr. Karyotakis is very thorough, caring and, as someone said below, easy on the eyes! I have never waited more than 5 minutes for an appointment time while other docs have you sitting around for an hour after your scheduled time. I would highly recommend him to anyone suffering from GI problems. more

worse ""Doctor"" EVER! 3/9/2008

I went to doctor ""K"" 3 weeks ago. Based on his website I felt I was in good hands with the best doctor in town. My firls visit was brief and very costly ($250.00) he didn't ask much questions but said i needed an endoscopy procedure asap! which costed $1,000 so i went ahead and had it done. on my visit i told him i was in a lot of pain and he gave me some samples that did NOTHING for my symptoms!!!!! He's staff is so incompetent.. i needed a doctor's note to clear me from physical training in school because due to my severe stomach pains i couldn't do. They never faxed it. i called 3 times and nothing. They dont return phone calls either. It's 3 weeks later and i know nothing of my results! i have no diagnose. i been miserable all this time in so much pain and discomfort. So i started researching about him and i came across this bad reviews about him which I agree 110%!!!!!!! i'm not waisting my time and money anymore. I'm going to another doctor who can HELP ME!!! this Doctor gave me the impression that is all about money. He just doesn't care for the patience well being. He did NOTHING FOR ME! Cons: PRICEY, INCOMPETENT, NEGLIGENT AND UNPROFESIONAL more

First rate gastroentereologist 2/12/2008

Professional, responsive, knowledgeable. This is what you want from a doctor. I am mystified by the negative reviews I have read. Medical procedures are expensive. So too are office visits with any professional. I did not have to wait an eternity to get in for an appointment, and he did not keep me waiting very long, which is unusual. Medical procedures were promptly scheduled, with good explanation and follow up. He is personable and very easy on the eyes. Pros: Knowledgeable, professional, responsive more

Very Bad Doctor 8/29/2007

I saw a review on N Karyotakis on city search a few months ago, it was glowing, he was rated almost 5 stars. In fact he still is. I wonder if a family member wrote that review, as I wasted much money and time going to an incompentant Doc because of this website. Be warned people thisw Docs will do nothing and cost you plenty. This Doc is a mess, he is imcompentant, his staff are the worst. He is rude, dismissive, and he will not get to the root of your stomach issues. He seems all about money to me.. you get a short visit, little attention and a hefty bill... There are good Docs out there, he is not one of them. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 8/29/2007

I went to see this Doctor from the 1 review on insiderpages. Well he is not all that. Yes, he is frendly but that is where it ends. He will not give you test results, not return phone calls, his staff is the worst I have ever encounted.. oh yes and did I mention his prices are very expensive. If you do decide to go to him, he will spend 5 minutes with you, give you a big smile, and send you off to take about 5 thousand $ worth of tests. He will than charge 250.00 for that 5 minutes, OK he gives you some stomach medicine. I have been with him for 7 months, I decided to finally stop his abusive relationship when I got very ill and could not drive, I was in terrible pain and I needed to talk to him, HE WOULD NOT CALL ME, HE SAID I HAD TO COME IN..I GUESS THEY RAISED HIS COUNTRY CLUB MEMBERSHIP. It than took about 2 months of unretuned phone calls to get my files. I am seeing another DOC. Don't let his smile fool you. Be careful with this one!!!!\r more

Negligent, Rude & money hungry 7/4/2007

This doctor, is very negligent, i have gone several times 1st time was for a consultation, 2nd was for an endoscopy, and 3rd for a follow up. 1st time he prescribed an endoscopy, 2nd time he confirmed i had polyps, then 3rd time he told me that he never said i had polyps, and was about to leave without telling me that i had an ulcer! As he lead me to the waiting room after the follow up he literaly tossed me the Prevacid pills in my direction without making any eye contact. Very rude! Cons: likes to prescribe you prescription pills so you can get worse, and he can rake in the money. more
