The store's layout is not customer friendly: California wines are between Bordeaux and Burgundy.\r Israeli wines split other French wines. Portuguese wines split Spanish wines. It's a ploy.\r \r Customer service is usually rude and uncivilized; and unfriendly at its best. \r \r Forget about the store's website -- it has no relevance whatsoever to what's actually in the shelves.\r \r This store specializes in cheap wines -- but they will make sure that you know that they only want you to buy their higher end ones. The staff here hides their ignorance about wine by being rude and/or unresponsive. Do yourself a favor and go to another of the myriad liquor stores in the area. Cons: Rude staff more

Garnet is a gem 8/3/2005

This cheap wino is always able to find good bottles of reds and whites around $5. The space is recently renovated, making finding what you're looking for easy and comprehensive. Free samples of champagne are common and Garnet is also open on Sundays from noon until 6:00 PM. more

Know what you want beforehand 5/19/2002

Garnet is New York's cut-rate wine and liquor store. To be sure, prices are low, but you have to prowl around the chaotic store to find what you want. The few service people seem to be always tearing open boxes of wine and placing them on the shelves. There are excellent buys in California and French labels -- but you must have the persistance to find them. more
