Since opening last fall, Galaxy Drive-In has seen a steady stream of customers from all over the metroplex. They are located in Garrett, just north of Ennis on the I-45 service road. Those coming from Dallas have to make an awkard u-turn at the exit, so watch for them as you drive in. The double feature is an economical price, $6 for adults (12 and over) and $3 for children. Load up the car, but bring blankets and chairs, you’ll need them if you have a car full so all can see the show. For parents of young children, this is an affordable way to see the latest movie and forgo the babysitter. For teenagers, it is an opportunity to chat with friends, enjoy the movie and not break the bank.
The films are just released feature films and they do a pretty good pairing of shows. Because it is a drive-in, the movies don’t start till the sun goes down. You can use the speaker box at your window or just tune your radio to the appropriate station. On weekends, expect to wait in line just to get in. It’s worth the wait. Select your space carefully. The only drawback I’ve really experienced has been children sitting on rooftops of trucks and silhouetting the screen. Parents generally remove them quickly, but annoying nonetheless.
As the management tells everyone, the snack bar is their main business. Get your space then head in to check out the fare. They offer the usual movie food, popcorn, hot dogs, soda and candy, but they also offer hamburgers, fries, salads and baked potatoes! I was quite impressed with the wide selection of food and the low prices. The lines tend to get long during the break between films, but they move fairly quickly. Inside the concession there are video games to pass the time till the show.
Galaxy will soon start production on a fourth screen.
