The best I've found 4/4/2011

I have been dealing with G.C.E. for several years now. I have found them to be honest, reliable and courteous. If an error is ever made in filling an order (rare), they quickly correct it. Their bullion prices are very competitive. Highly recommended. more

Outstanding 4/2/2011

I sat on my little pot of gold for years thinking no one would give me what it was worth. I also didn't trust any of these gold places to be honest with me. WOW! was I wrong - Gaithersburg Coin Exchange was not only honest but they were very pleasant to deal with. They were very clear about my stash and what it was worth. I would not hesitate to go back to them with with future needs. You can't go wrong with GCE, unless you go somewhere else! more

I go in there to sell gold and silver all the time and I think they are really honest and have integrity. Definitely the best place to do business with when it comes to precious metals. My only complaint is one of the staff. There are usually just two guys who deal with customers looking to sell scrap metal. One of them, the young guy, is great. always very polite and friendly. The older, grumpy, heavyset man on the other hand is very rude. He acts like doing is job is the largest burden he has ever had to carry and to treat customers like fellow human beings would be blasphemy. I always cross my fingers for the younger guy :) Overall, the place is great. There's a reason people drive from all over the east coast to deal with them. more

Great prices 10/23/2010

Hey. was searching for reviews after visiting this store. I dont know about coin collectiing but I wanted to invest a large sum in gold and this company allowed me to do so at a great price. I was shocked when I walked in because I know through some friends how powerful these guys are and the place looked like crap. Great service ( a young guy) and a great price. Thanks more

Collectors Don't Waste Your Time 10/13/2010

I had the same experience as the previous customer today. Collectors don't waste your time going to see this company. They aren't interested in collector coins just buying and seller gold and silver. I waited 90 minutes and several customers later for the owner to help me with collector coins. He never did. Then he accused me of loitering because he wouldn't help me since another customer asked what the spot price of gold was at. Not only do they not care about collector coins they can be downright rude. I won't be going back to see them again! more

Collectors Beware! 10/2/2010

I drive 40 minutes away from base to go here, since I dont have to time on weekdays. I go into the store today looking to buy 1914D and a 1931S penny. After having to wait for 6 people for a total of 30 minutes, I ask to see there selection of those wheat pennies. The clerk then tells me that they won't help me, because they are too busy. He then asks the manager and the owner says that they wont help me out! I guess people who buy silver and gold are more important than collectors like myself. I called ahead of time to sell some gold I had been holding on to for a couple of years, I talked to someone and got a price which was higher than anywhere else. I got stuck in traffic and had to go the following day. I waited in line for a while but was finally helped by a young man ( Jerry), I told him I had called the day before and what the price was. He started going into how gold pricings change everyday, and I was ready to hear why they had to pay me less. I couldn't beleive it because the price had GONE UP and he was telling me that I would get paid more! I walked out with $1900 and at the mall they offered me 400. I didn't even know the place existed and I have lived in the area for 5 years. now i know why the line was so long. We need more businessed like this one this day and age. A+++++ more

Have ordered bullion coins and 90% silver by telephone. The price as of the time ordered was locked in, and when my check cleared, regardless of market price fluctuations, (the market has always gone up after ordering) the product was shipped. By the way, Gaithersburg prices on bullion are better than any other place I've found. And with certain quantities shipping is free! Will order again. Recommend! more

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE 6/11/2010

Went in several times and ended up selling $500 of merchandise. Each time mistakes were made in calculating the value of my things. One guy complained I was coming in too often and couldn't return unless I lumped all my items together and sold them all at once. Very RUDE. I would never go there again and would highly recommend you avoid this shop unless you bring a calculator. more

I went in to sell some extra silver to make some room. I did not go in to purchase, however I will be back to do so. Very nice collection. After reading the reviews I was not certain if driving an extra 30 min. out of my way would be worth it. The staff were friendly, professional. There were other customers there, they received the same quality service, which these days is often lacking. In my opinion much better than a closer "coin & stamp" company 20-30 minutes south. If you are buying or selling, it is important to only do business with people who understand the word integrity. more

The dealer government workers buy from 8/21/2009

I have bought extremely large amounts of gold, silver and palladium through GCE over the past 3 years as I suspect we will soon have a major dollar crisis-fall of 2009. It is interesting that so many people who work for the government are stocking up on bullion thru GCE. They must have their own doubts about the future. Who do you trust Bernanke or bullion? I have been very satisfied with all the staff including Mark. They trust me enough that I can even buy smaller orders with a personal check and take the metals home on the spot. I would much rather deal with GCE than some unknown online source who can not deliver the goods when GCE can. I feel their spreads are fair when compared to the competition and they will try to treat you fairly. Sometimes taking delivery takes a while as each salesperson tries to complete each sales order one at a time to ensure total accountability. Like any bullion business they will be careful to protect themselves from some one trying to flimfla more

The buyer is the problem 3/28/2009

I am a dealer that has dealt with GCE for over 20 years. They are knowledgeable and experienced and do not have inflated prices as has been expressed in other posting. Bottom line is they would not have grown as large as they are if they are ripping people like Ralph A off. \r Be a mature adult and research what you are buying before you go in. If they are selling you something you don't want dont buy it. And Ralph, I have plenty of bars just marked 999 and I/we sell them all day, so I will buy yours anytime. Go invest in the Stock Market if you can't grow up. more

Bend over when you walk in 3/24/2009

I knew nothing about silver and asked for silver bars. They sold me 100 oz bars without any markings. I did not know any better and took the bars home only to be informed by my friend that if I sold them each would need to be certified. These guys , at best, bought gold on the market and melted it into small bars to be sold at high markup. At worst they diluted like crazy. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS more

Good people 3/18/2009

My husband and I have been buying gold and silver for years for investment and security. We found GCE last month through a friend and after our initial transaction we are very happy with the outcome. They have more options then other places ( we bought 100 gram gold bars and silver bars of various denominations ) and are overall more knowledgeable. Every time we went in they were very busy, but I think the high volume allows for their lower prices. We will go back if we buy more in the future. more

Excellent Serivce 3/17/2009

I called as a first time gold buyer and was very surprised how easy it was. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone, Mark was very easy to work with and I was able to order 10 ounces of gold quickly and easily. My payment was processed in a few days and I received my coins about a week later. I will most certainly use this dealer again. A friend of mine said they are one of the biggest on the east coast. I recommend Gaithersburg Coin Exchange to any newcomer to gold and silver. more

Dishonest, waste of time 2/16/2009

I was looking to sell some of my American Gold Eagle 1 oz. gold coins. I called various shops to get price quotes, and found that Gaithersburg Coin offered me the best rate, but only by a small margin. So I drove 1 hour to the shop, and waited in line while their distracted inefficient staff took 45 minutes to serve the 2 customers in front of me. When I finally spoke to them, they quoted me a "buy price" significantly lower than that quoted on the phone, and refused to give me what they'd offered me on the phone, even though I'd just spoken with them a couple of hours before and the gold spot price had been steady that day. Rather than get ripped off, I took my business elsewhere and refused to deal with those swindlers at Gaithersburg Coin. What a waste of time and a bad experience!!! more
