The Scene
Elegant, relaxed, yet reasonably priced, the original Lakeview Pops quickly hit when it opened in 1982; this locale followed in 1998. The Highwood bar is divided into two sections, one with a cover and one without. The free part is a little schizophrenic; an oak bar and warm candles promise an elegance ruined by throbbing dance music from the sound system. The mostly couples crowd seems more interested in microbrews than champagne, though the signature celestial fizz makes a nice compromise. Pay the cover for the live music room, where burnished gold, twinkle lights, jazz and champagne play together in perfect harmony.
The Draw
This Pops features a reputable selection of wines, cognacs, single-malt scotches, small-batch bourbons, and liquers. It's the ideal spot before or after dinner or a show, with an excellent choice of aperitifs, appetizers, cordials and desserts.
