  • The BI-LO Charities Children's Cancer Center of The Greenville Health System University Medical Center was established in 1986 to provide the most up-to-date treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults living with cancer or blood disorders.

Today, it is one of South Carolina's most progressive children's cancer treatment centers and serves a referral area of approximately 300,000 children, teen, and young adults living in the upstate of South Carolina, Western North Carolina, and Northeastern Georgia.

The center is an active member of the Children's Oncology Group, a nationwide association of some of the world's best known childhood cancer centers.

This membership gives the Center access to the latest treatment protocols and drug trials for all types of childhood cancers. Patients seen in the Center can be treated by the same protocols that can be found in renowned hospitals such as St. Judes, Duke, Emory, and Johns Hopkins. Children's Oncology Group protocols are designed for treating infants, young children, teenagers, and young adults

The center also offers diagnostic services and treatments for children and adolescents living with hemophilia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, sickle cell disease, various anemias, and other hematological disorders.

The BI-LO Charities Children's Cancer Center is made up of a 14-bed inpatient unit and outpatient unit with clinical, research and educational components. The center provides comprehensive cancer services to infants, children and young adults living in upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina and northern Georgia. As a member of the international Children's Oncology Group (COG), the center provides patients with access to the latest clinical trials for all childhood cancers. The center is also currently conducting innovative pediatric cancer research within the GHS Oncology Research Institute.
