Hey everyone...it is with deep sadness that I announce the final transition of our beloved "XENA" Cunningham.
Raphael, you were right. The cancer spread so quickly that within a week and a half, we had to make "the" decision. You'll be relieved to know though that the thrice daily wrappings of her foot
along with a 2 hour "airing out" period in the evening before final wrap, cleared up the infection in her foot, but the tumor continued to grow significantly each day.
She was a great sport about it...but we could see the struggle and signs of cancer spreading exponentially daily. So, on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at 5:45 p.m., an angelic Vet technician from Palm Springs Animal Hospital whose name was "MARTA", came over to our house and put Xena to sleep. It was very VERY peaceful...fire in the fireplace, classical music softly in the back ground, soft lighting, and her head was in my lap with my arms fully around her and my face on hers. She now is resting in her favorite sunning area in the back yard.
Now that we've moved to Palm Springs , I don't know when I'll see you all again. I wish to thank ALL of you, (especially you, Raphael!) for taking such good care of our "kids" over the last 32 years: Brett, Bandit, TeeJay, Ginaro, Judy, Job, Ebony, Lily, Oscar & Xena. And hopefully, we'll meet again someday. For the first time in the last 32 years, the house is truly empty of animals and it feels awful. As soon as we catch our breath, we'll go rescue a couple more..
Jeanie C.
