Editorial review from Citysearch 7/3/2012

I have been eating at the Funhouse pizza in Raytown for over 40 years now and tonight will be the last time I ever go there. I called in my order and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes, which is about how long it takes me to drive there. When I arrived I saw one of my Pizzas already done but was told to wait they were not ready yet after sitting an watching I noticed another one of my pizzas was ready, then they put them back In the oven to reheat them because the first one had been sitting out for 20 minutes. Finally after sitting there for 35 minutes my wife and I went up to ask if they had forgotten us and sure enough all our pizzas were ready but two had been place back in the oven to reheat them and were burnt and soggy the one large had shrunk down to the size of the medium. We did not even get an I'm sorry from the girl behind the counter or the manger we talked to she just complained about how busy they were. When we arrived there were only 4 tables of people there and one of those was done eating. I can see why every time I have been there in the last 6 months the place was basically empty. This is very tragic for me because Fun House has always been my favorite pizza until now. Good luck continuing the family business. By the way before you put the pizza in the box you should check and make sure there is no burnt paper on the bottom of it. more

They Lost a Whole Family of Life Long Customers. Rude! 7/18/2011

We have been eating here since we were kids but will NEVER go back because of the way they treat their customers. I gave my sister a Kansas City Perk since she was on her way there anyway. She was not able to use it b/c she is not the one who purchased it, which is fine, it was the way they handled the situation along with the way she was treated in front of other customers. She had no problem with the gentleman but apparently a lady overhead their conversation and jumped in to save the day with her rude self. My sister, who is a manager of her own store, having lots of experience with customer service, did what anyone who is treated badly by an employee does... she asked to speak with the manager. Then comes, we'll call her Brutus, so Brutus comes over making her authority known, and tells her she's the one she needs to speak with and goes right into, ""if you don't have ID, you're not getting it"". This is in front of the other employees and customers. Ghetto! My sister would have purchased the pizza if the situation would have been handled differently, but just like me, my parents and other siblings and family members, she will never give them another dime. They acted like she tried to steal a pizza, which was not the case at all. I purchase KC Perks, restaurant.cm, Groupon, Living Social, etc., all the time so I can have them for personal use or give them to family members when convenient for them, and I have NEVER had a problem like this with any of them. So disappointed at the way my sister was treated and will tell everyone I know about her experience. So basically, I paid for the certificate, gave it to my sister, and since I did not enter her name online at the time of purchase (because it was not a gift), she could not use it. I also want to mention that I used mine 2 weeks ago and was never asked for ID. She even told them I was in there and used one 2 weeks ago, they looked it up to confirm that it was indeed true, and still would not let her use it. Again, she would have normally purchased it anyway, but not with the prison attitude floating around that place. It has literally gone to sh*t. So she ordered a pizza, tried to use a certificate which they verified was paid for by me and not stolen WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HER offering to give them confirmation numbers or whatever they needed, and instead of allowing her to use it, they wasted an entire pizza, I guess to prove a point. Point taken! Fairwell! more

It Ought to Be Called Outhouse Pizza 2/12/2011

I'm sorry. I've tried this place 3X. My hubby thinx it's grand b/c he grew up eating it. No wonder he has so many gastrointestinal problems! This place is filthy. What do they do? Hose down the concrete floors? Yuck! Nasty bathrooms, nasty environment and NASTY pizza. Floppy and saggy and not very flavorful. I guess that's Methdependence for you. I dread going in to that toilet bowl, but, hubby and his family think it's the Bomb! It's a bomb alright. A stinkbomb! YUCK! more

Best Pizza Place Around! 1/24/2011

My family and I have been going here for years and it has stayed top of the line. Great tasting pizza and fun environment for the whole family. I also love the fact that you can reserve the back room for parties or get-to-gethers, for FREE! You can't find that many places, that's for sure! No other pizza place like this around. AND they deliver! more

Fun House 40 Hiway 5/14/2010

Love Fun House! Some people get confused. 40 Hiway has always been it's own entity. It is NOT affiliated with Raytown, 23rd Street, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Harrisonville or Raymore. I grew up going there and my 82 year old dad has requested that for his birthday for years!!! Pros: Consistant for 40 years Cons: Could use some updating more

What is with all the good reviews 8/4/2009

So I order a medium soft drink. I get handed a cup not much bigger than a small, had my three sips, then went up to get a refill only to be told it costs fifty cents. Screw you people. And would it hurt to update the decor. What a dump! And the pizza is not so great either. It's meat and veggies on bread. Where's the sauce? Anyway, no pizza is worth dragging my kids to that dreary, lifeless hell hole. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Coupons 3/21/2009

All the Fun House Pizza locations offer coupons EXCEPT the 40 Hwy location - what's up with that?? We had a birthday party there (no balloons allowed!) and the pizza was good but it would have tasted better with a coupon!! Pros: Good Pizza Cons: No coupons offered at this location!! more

What happend? (Raytown location) 3/13/2009

Three generations of my family have grown up on Fun House Pizza. I am sad to say I may not be passing this tradition on to my own children. First there was the failed franchise locations that did nothing more than tarnish the Fun House name (Harrisonville and Raymore among the worst). And now it seems the recipe or maybe the preparation has changed. The only location that is making a comparable pizza to the original is the Lees Summit location. It however has one crucial short coming. Service is very lacking when the owner (Semper Fi) isn't in. The ""children? that work there are rude and petulant. When the Boss is in everything is ship shape. I know for a fact he wouldn?t tolerate such behavior. Pros: Memories Cons: Location, up keep, food quality, and the list goes on... more

Best Pizza in KC, when you get a good one with enough cheese and the edges burnt just right! 4/1/2008

This by far is a landmark pizza joint in Independence, The funhouse combination has such a heap of toppings that they won't all stay on the pizza. The place has a carnival atmosphere, nothing too fancy, it's all about the Pizza! They always have a large staff keeping things running smothly. I have been eating there for the last 35 years. They have plenty of games to keep the rug ratz busy, just keep feeding them the quarters. Pros: Best Pizza in KC! Cons: about every fourth time, the pizza is skimmpy on the cheese. more

They used to be great 1/7/2008

Im 35 and I have been eating Fun House pizzas for as long as I can remember and I am sorry to say Im not going back. The pizza has changed in the last few months. It doesnt taste near as good as it used to. I havent confirmed all of them have switched but the one in Lees Summit and Harrisomville have. Please let me know if the 40 hwy location is still good, its worth the drive. more

Best pizza bar none, rundown and neglected interior 6/19/2007

In my opinion, the 40 highway location has the best pizza you will find anywhere. Too bad the place is really looking run down compared to how it looked twenty years ago or more. They used to have cool black light pictures on the walls which I was fascinated with as a youngster. None of the lights work anymore, and the walls look coated with tar from decades of smoke. It has a generally neglected feel to it, which is a real shame. But the pizza is still THE BEST! Pros: pizza Cons: eating there more

Killer Monday tacos!!!!! 2/13/2006

ok, you can't beat 55 cent tacos and $2.25 32 oz beers! Yeah, so the place has not changed in about 40 years but ya know what, thats how long they have been in the same location with the same awsome pizza! They have an interesting game room with everything from the ""CLAW"" to Golden Tee to Old classics like Galaga. I appreciate a place that has stuck to its roots and has not commecialized itself. My family has the tradition of every monday night we go, get beers and tacos, sit at a huge table of 15 and have fun! Thank you Funhouse for keeping my family closer! Pros: Beer, fun, good food Cons: bad jukebox more

Great Pizza, but take CASH! 1/7/2006

I've enjoyed Fun House Pizza since I was a kid; while in town over the holidays to visit family, I ordered a couple of pizzas for take out. The pizza is still great, but I was surprised when I arrived to pick up my order that Fun House ONLY accepts cash. Two large pizzas cost $36, and I wasn't carrying that much cash. Yes, they have an ATM right by the counter (which I had to use), but that added another $3.50 total to the cost of the pizza ($1.50 by the ATM bank, $2.00 by my bank). Ouch! I would never eat in the restaurant -- it's too dark and noisy, but the pizza is still as tasty as I remember it being in my youth. I recommend Fun House, but remember to stop by the bank first! more

great pizza bye far 10/19/2005

i am 45 and have been all over kc due to my company work, and bye far funhouse pizza is the best.I have been going there for many many years, and its taste the same as it did years ago, perfect pizza. When ever friends come in from out of town i take them there for pizza, and ever time they love it' Pros: clean, games for kids, great food more

YUMMY 7/29/2005

This is the best pizza in the world!! If you are in the KC area you have to try it! Pros: awesome food Cons: smokey more

FUN HOUSE IS GREAT! 5/18/2005

I have been coming to Fun House for as long as I can remember (over 20 years!). I frequent both the 40 HWY and Raytown locations. Both are always clean and the staff is generally friendly. The Pizza is AWESOME! By far the BEST in town. Sauce is a bit spicey vs. tomato but tastes great. The toppings are very generous and they use real ground beef on hamburger pizzas (unlike the processed stuff from the big chains). They are also very generous with the REAL cheese! Great family enviroment with an arcade for kids! LOVE FUN HOUSE! OH - the Raytown location now delivers!!!!! Pros: Pizza, Family Enviroment, Casual Cons: Noisy (lots of kids!) more

Worldly Pizza 5/18/2005

I grew up in Independence eating Fun House Pizza. I went into the military in 1993 and spread the word from northern Japan to Saudi Arabia about the best pizza anyone could ever try: Fun House. It's the best! Pros: Best Pizza, Arcade, Juke Box Cons: Slightly expensive more

Great Pizza over 30 years 1/21/2005

I am almost 35 years old and have been going to Fun House as far back as I can remember. They used to have more locations like one on 24 HWY and I wish they would put one in the northland area (Parkville, etc) because I hardly get to go anymore since I have 3 small kids and it is not real convenient. Pros: Great Pizza, Good parking, inexpensive Cons: , smokey, noisey more

Pizza 12/11/2003

The pizza that I have had there is usually dry. They don't put near enough sauce on it. The service is not that good and the place is unusually dark. Pros: good parking, easy location, good access Cons: dry pizza, dark, poor service more
