The McDonald's of sushi 8/17/2006

Imagine all you can eat sushi for $11... now be realistic and think about what the quality would be like. While it's hard to dis a restaurant that can give you plate after plate of sushi for $11, I just don't think it's really that good. The place is packed and the wait to get in (when they open at 11am) can be up to an hour. Once you're in, there is a large sushi bar towards the back of the joint with "sushi boats" trolling around it. You simply stake claim to a table and then go and grab as much fish as you can carry away from the boats. If there is something you want that is not on a boat, you can ask one of the chefs to make it for you. The quality though is sub par in terms of good sushi. Pieces that have been riding on the boats for some time (there is no way to tell) are a little warm and just don't have a fresh taste. Even the rolls that are made for you when you order seem a little old. Also, if you show up after there lunch rush it seems like the quality goes down even further as some fish must be left floating around the bar for a while. Even at this price, I don't think I'll return. more

don't forget to breathe 3/30/2006

So, I know this is terrible to admit. But Alex and I have gotten in the habit of shoving our faces so quickly that the waitress knows us as the couple who never take long for dinner. In our defense, it's so easy to do when eating at Fuji's restaurant. Little boats topped with sushi float around you, beckoning for you to grab and enjoy. And they're so tasty, and CHEAP. We love eating the tempura sushi, and California rolls, and unagi. I could go on forever. The sushi chefs are very friendly, and will make anything you want special. If you're brave and determined try going in during the all you can eat lunch hour. Oh yeah, no holds barred. But be careful that you may be waiting a really long time, like REALLY long time. It's so busy. The smart people line up about 30 minutes before they open, but I'm too impulsive and lazy to think that far ahead. more

The ultimate sushi experience 9/22/2005

Argueably THE most popular & busy store in downtown Davis! Fuji is known for its lunch buffet--unlimited sushi, sashimi, tempura, krabs... all for $10/person! You can even sign up for the sushi bar seating where a stream of sushi boats flows right before you and you and your blessed guests just reach out and pick whatever food items you wish. There are also tons of special items for request (free-free-free) like tuna or salmon sashimi or fried crabs. All under $10! The stores opens daily at 11:30AM, but be aware! Long lines usually start forming around 11:00 so be sure to get there early! more

Worth waiting in line for 9/22/2005

Whenever you drive down downtown davis you always see the crowd of people in front of FUJI chef, and that is cause it a great all you can eat sushi place for davis. I have been to other places not in davis which offer better sushi, but this will do. YOu can pretty much bet that if you are not there in line at 11:30 that you will be wait for an hour for a seat. The sushi is good and they have lot of different items. If they don't have something at the boat, you can ask the chef to make it and they will bring it to your table. They also have dumplings, chicken on a stick and other delights for those who don't like sushi. I love their fried bananas. I love their dragon rolls as well. more

Great Japanese Food 8/28/2005

Fuji Sushi is a rare, inexpensive sushi buffet located downtown in Davis. Fuji has buffet lunch, but for dinner, you have to pay for each individual plate of sushi you eat, so it's better if you come for lunch. The last time I went, the lunch buffet was around 13 dollars, and slightly more expensive on weekends. This place is totally packed with college students, so come early because lunch stops around one or two pm. The sushi buffet features all kinds of sashimi, tempura, eel, California rolls, beans, barbecue chicken, raw oysters, and a lot more stuff. You can also order custom made stuff for no extra charge. Come hungry! more

Sushi for your buck 8/17/2005

What a wonderful deal! If you go in during the week from 11-2, you can get a great deal for all you can eat sushi for about $10. On weekends, it's $11. No matter what though, the chefs are great and will make almost anything you ask for without worry. When it comes to waiter service, they're horrible. They will ignore you more likely than not unless you're about to leave, then they make sure you didn't take any of the sushi to go. They'll keep an eagle eye on your table if one person orders from the menu and others get the all you can eat. They're always a line going out the door and partially down the block during the school year peak hours, but its truly worth the wait, just get someone to come early and sign your name in and the amount of people coming and you're set to go. more

Fuji Chef 8/16/2005

Fuji Chef Sushi Boat and Buffet (or as it's often called, Fuji's) is a small highly overrated Japanese restaurant that often has a line going out the door on for lunch. This is due to the extreme popularity of their all you can eat lunch special. This is attractive to most people, but for those who can tell (or smell) the difference between fresh fish and somewhat old, the quality is just unacceptable. more

$10 all you can eat sushi!! 8/5/2005

Everyday there is an all you can eat sushi. Say goodbye to the overpriced sushi plates and eat whatever you want for only $10. The buffet is always busy tho. It is very crowded, and if you don't want to wait, go there early. There will surely be a line before the restaurant opens. Sit at the bar and watch the food float in a boat. Just reach out your arm and eat what you want to eat. If its not on the boats then just order it from the chefs, they have no problem doing it. more

great sushi 8/4/2005

Fuji Sushi locates on 213 G st. downtown at Davis. The lunch buffet, as I remember, is about 11 dollars. Although I think it is expensive, a lot of people go there , so you usually have to wait about 30 mins to one hour .A lot of Japanesefood can be selected. If you like sushi, that is perfect choice. more
