I'm so glad DC now has a d.i.y. frozen yogurt spot - the kind of place where you can fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt as you want, and where you can put mounds of fruits or candy to your liking. They've got a great selection of flavors, from the classics like vanilla to unique ones like Red Velvet. They even carry low-fat and low sugar flavors for those health-conscious folk. Their toppings bar has plenty of sliced strawberries, kiwi, shaved coconut, etc. as well as chopped up Kit Kat bars, white chocolate chips and other indulgent condiments. Just be careful not to fill your cup up too much or douse your yogurt in vanilla wafers and chocolate sauce - it's easy to spend $7 on 1 cup alone! Pros: Can get as little or as much yogurt and toppings as you want Cons: Can easily spend more than you expect more

Bang for your buck 7/1/2010

In theory FroZenYo is a great yogurt option. You pay by weight (which tends to be much cheaper than other tart yogurt options) and they have a wall of flavors to choose from that range from chocolate and vanilla to tart and dulce de leche. Personally, I don't like their tart yogurt in comparison to other local options (it is just a few blocks from tangy sweet), but if you aren't a huge tart flavor fan and would like the regular frozen yogurt choices, this is the place for you. Pros: pay by weight, lots of flavors Cons: too sweet, always a line more

DC's Best Fro Yo? 6/28/2010

After taking one of my friends to FroZenYo for the first time he remarked that it was, ""the best four dollars I've spent in a while."" If you like to be refreshed, enjoy mixing and matching flavors, and don't want to break the bank, FroZenYo is probably the best place for four (or more...or less!) of your dollars. FroZenYo stands out from other froyo shops because it is self-serve, a la carte, and you control your tasty, refreshing destiny. With over 30 flavors, including sugar-, fat-, and lactose-free choices, FroZenYo can be both a liberating and daunting experience. Cookies and Cream and Mint Chocolate? By all means go ahead and add a bit of Cheesecake or Passion Fruit to the mix. The frozen yogurt here is a bit sweeter than other places around the City. However, if you prefer a tangier, more yogurt-y taste go for FroZenYo's Original Tart or California Tart flavors. Another friend remarked that the best thing about this place is they have a ton of flavors and they all taste exactly like (I would say, better than) they should. The Blueberry tastes like tart, yet sweet berries, the Peach is quite peachy, the Butter Pecan is delightfully buttery. But there's more! Not only do you get to mix and match as many flavors as you want, FroZenYo also has a toppings bar for adding everything from fruit to Froot Loops to your cold concoction. The self serve format can be a double edged sword because you pay by weight. This can either be great, if you just wanted a little bit of Strawberry yogurt for your walk to the Metro, or unnerving, when you realize you are going to have to pay with a credit card because you only came with four dollars. Most places either give you too much or too little all while ripping you off. FroZenYo is an example of good business, quality product, and an exercise in self-control. For all these reasons it could easily be the District's best frozen yogurt shop. Pros: a la carte, variety of flavors, cheap Cons: can get crowded more
