If you need to stop for food anywhere on I-91 (drive that way if you are going between Montreal and New York) you must visit: Friendly's at Exit 26 going South.
The staff is unlike any you will see at all the other joints along the road. Amanda is a statuesque angel, gliding along among the tables from noon - 10 pm, taking 3 college courses a term, juggling full time hours and stacks of dirty dishes. I'm convinced Ella only recently escaped from either the Island of Misfit Toys, with her impish, elfin grin or she dreams of going there someday.
Stephanie waited on us last night (me, Annie -12 and Julie-17) and she dealt with us and our special orders like we were her cousins who she was happy to see, did not judge for eccentricities and was happy to feed.
Then, after paying, when I dropped my 7 traveling 20's in the bathroom, and did not discover it until I reached my hotel in Wallingford, CT....and even then, did not know for sure where the money had gone....
Who would have ever thought that one of the Friendly's Angels would have found it, handed it in to her supervisor, and it would still be there, in the safe, literally safe and sound, when I called the restaurant tonight?
It's a special spot, folks, and if you are ever lucky enough to have 45 minutes to spare in that area, stop in. Order anything off the menu. You'll find something and whatever you get, you know you'll be happy.
The bonus is whoever you get to meet. Enjoy
Pros: The people who work here are incredible!
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
