Great shop full of fun, practical, and unique bikes! 8/28/2008

First of all, Joe J. is a bit misguided. Freeze Thaw will build you nearly any type of bike with any number of gears. Not many other bicycle shops will give you the freedom to choose every single part on your bike, from their huge selection of used and new parts. Second of all, comparing a bike at Freeze Thaw to a new $300 mtn bike is like comparing apples and oranges. More labor and time is put into the Freeze Thaw bike, but it is well worth it for the quality, simplicity, and durability you get. more

But the bikes were not nice enough for the hefty price tag. The bikes start at $300. Yes, the bikes are custom built, but the parts are used afterall. Moreover, the most intricate bike they will build has three gears. Freeze thaw is starting to create quite a buzz, and their business is doing quite well, so I take that to mean that their bikes are well-built. But for the price, you could buy an entry level mountain bike that has 21 gears. True you will only end up using seven or so if you are riding around town, but you will happy to have the extra four gears if you are going up and down the hills of State College. more
