My wife had me take her there after hearing about the place on TV. She is always looking for authentic Italian food, the way it is made in Italy. Freddy's had lots and lots of it.
It is a small Italian market with a counter with lots of hot and cold food slices. Among the items we purchased (is fairly small quantities) were:
Semolina bread (made with pasta flour, like in Italy)
Calamari rings in marinara sauce
Aranchini (breaded rice balls with filling)
Seafood Risotto (rice with mussels, calamari and LOTS of other seafood)
Mozzarella balls (little)
Pasta with pepperoni
Pasta with meat and peas
Stuffed artichokes
and a few other things.
We had sausage pizza there it the eating area with lots of cheese, a slightly crunchy yet chewy thick crust and very tasty sausage. We also had Italian ice which had a subtle, yet good lemon flavor.
All the food was incredibly good. We went on saturday and spent Sunday and Monday finishing it.
The store wasn't accessible, but the people helped me lift my wife's wheelchair up a couple of steps.
The eating area next door was fully accessible.
The people were incredibly nice and the food was incredibly good. There are very few places that my wife will admit to liking traditional Italian food from. There are now 3 on that list in the Chicago area, with Freddy's Pizzeria being the latest entry.
Be prepared - you need to pay by cash or check.
This is the best eating/shopping experience I have enjoyed with my wife in a long, long time. I can't recommend this enough.
