Editorial review from Citysearch 6/8/2013

DISGUSTING EXCUSE FOR A SUPPOSED COOL BUSINESS. I am selling some items that I don't use in order to shoot my documentary pertaining to some issues in the health care realm. I was excited to go to Freakbeat reading all of the various reviews. I thought to myself, support smaller indi places. I was greeted by one gentlemen sitting near the window's think he was a sorter, pricier) He said, ""good morning."" The individual i dealt with was an older gent with glasses and an attitude that would make people shudder. This man said nothing throughout his lookover of about 70 DVDs. I had very good sets from Californication, Entourage and so on. It wasn't the money offered that sickened me, it was this employees lack of communication, service or any sort of friendliness. I was completely appalled. I asked him if he was the owner. He replied, ""no, but he is."" I explained to the owner how bad the service was. I said it's eleven in the morning, i am the first one in the doors and this is how I was treated. The owner had this to say......He shrugged his shoulders. As i was walking out steamed at what just happened, i let some expletives go after being told to have a nice weekend in totally sarcastic tone. I should have put every DVD back into the box. I just wasn't thinking rationally after dealing with glasses guy. I will gladly give anyone the pittance I received for my DVDs if they actually have a great experience at Freakbeat. I have a feeling that they sit around all week and email fake reviews about themselves. I would have rather donated all of the movies, and not driven a half hour to ruin my Saturday. I am still smoking mad at this man. Karma my good man. Karma...So sickened. I hate how homogenized America has become, but i wouldn't bat an eye if their store became a CVS. I never wish bad things on anyone, but let this place go out of business before someone has a heart attack. DON'T SUPPORT THIS PLACE. THEY TREATED ME WITH NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER. PLEASE, PLEASE DO BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.... more

MORE HISTORY THAN YOU CAN ABSORB! 7/11/2011

Bob Say who owns Freakbeat has been around since the invention of water, so music was a logical step for him. He's forgotten more details and artist/record/CD trivia than most people will ever know. As a store owner myself in the dreary midwest every time I visit Freakbeat I always wish my joint was as organized, airy and clean as Freakbeat. Then again, I wish my store was in CALIFORNIA, too! I always find some great records at Freakbeat and learn some new bit of trivia aka r'n r history, it never fails. The stories abound, the owner's experience and eye to quality, condition and fair prices are all obvious. I go to Amoeba and it's like walking into a Tyrannosaurus Rex den, I'm just waiting to get eaten. Go into Freakbeat and it's like the record shops you remember - or WISH you were old enough to remember - from the best of the good old days. Plus, Sherman Oaks is just plain nice, like Bob & his crew. This shop is 6 stars, not to be missed. more

good selection, good music, and you can hear yourself think. 6/11/2008

it's not as big as the hollywood mega music store, or as noisy, or as expensive. the dudes who ring you up are there all the time and they're not the hip, anxious to please, pretty young things you find over the hill. but they know music, they are selective in what they buy, and they play what they like at reasonable volumes so you can actually take in the considerable vinyl section. Pros: vinyl selection, prices, knowledgeable staff more
