Frank's Restaurant

We frequently drive between San Antonio and Houston and always stop at Frank's for a great meal. The fried fish is out of this world - light and tasty and the portion size feeds two people. We also love the nightly steak special - split this and order and extra salad - and also the fried chicken is great! Don't forget to leave room for their homemade pies!!!!! Frank's Restaurant used to be good but now just seems to be relying on their old reputation for really great country cooking. Well we stopped there today and were so disappointed. The home cooking is no more. Three in our group had the Chicken Fried Steak it was not fresh but your run of the mill frozen breaded cutlet. Someone else had the fried shrimp...same thing, frozen. Two of us had Turkey sandwich on wheat toast. Was nothing special. Service was not much better. After waiting for awhile we had to ask the hostess for someone to wait on us. When our order was served they forgot mine. ""Iced"" tea hardly had ice. But the worse was the ladies room which was an absolute horror. Sinks were old & filthy. If an establishment doesn't keep the areas that the public see clean I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. I don't think Frank's has upgraded anything in the dining room or restrooms in 40+ years. WE WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!! Cons: Restroom more

I drive from Houston to San Antonio once a month at least, and we almost always stop at Frank's. Frank's has great food, it's inexpensive and comforting and it's a good location to stop and stretch your legs. I recommend their chicken fried steak, pie, french fries and flavored tea. Don't drink the water, it tastes funny :P The place is never overcrowded and we get good service. They aren't so good at steak, I wouldn't recommend getting a steak unless you want it overcooked- better yet if you want it medium you should order it rare.
