This pet store isn't the best. They are better than Deridder Pets, but the care of some of the animals are not up to par. The smaller birds barely have anywhere to perch, nest, play...did I say barely? As far as their enclosure goes, one perch with 3 to 12 parrots. They keep them on a seed diet which is in no way adequate. The small animals/rodents are all kept in aquariums and any person with common sense knows that it offers hardly any ventilation. Their food also consists of seeds and they just throw their food in their bedding. No way to know if they are sick or even if they are eating. They have no toys to stimulate their intellect or help keep their teeth trim, no security, and are not separated by gender. A rat becomes sexually mature and ready to breed at 6 weeks old. Every time they get a guinea pig or a chinchilla, it is extremely stressed out. With their reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids it is the same thing. None of them have proper bedding, I don't even know if they switch out their ubv bulbs like they should, the hermit crabs and emperor scorpions need humidity up to 80% and the crabs especially need that to breathe...they are kept in a dry environment. None of the reptiles have a place to escape from view or each other. The frogs they have were all very different species with very different care needs, yet they were housed together in a cold aquarium with wet gravel. The only thing I'd say they take care of properly are snakes...except the feeder rats are kept in two small cages, I think, that are extremely cramped. No way to tell if they are sick, pregnant, fighting. I'm sure they aren't feeding them appropriately either. The lizards are all pretty much kept on sand even though it causes death by impaction, mold, ect. Insectivores have crickets kept in their cages at all times even though crickets will start feeding on the lizard itself. The iguanas are overcrowded with 2 usually in a 10 gallon. I don't know much about fish, but they all seem fine. As far as I'm concerned, it should be a fish store with pet supplies...and not other live animals. I wish there was some way I could shut this place down for their inhumane practices. The guy there is especially rude! I've tried telling him what the animals require in a very polite manner and he always gets offended or angry! Other than that, their prices are outrageous!!! It's cheaper to drive to Pet Smart or order online.
