Fostrian Court Assisted Living

We are very impressed with the care that our mother is getting at Fostrian Court. Since her move into assisted living in January 2013, her health and outlook on life has improved dramatically. The friendships she has formed, the care she has received, the community in which she now lives have all contributed to her overall health. It is a great comfort to us that the nursing staff is attending to her daily medical needs, as well as health concerns as they arise. She is receiving 3 good, nourishing meals/day served by friendly staff who actually take the time to get to know her. The facility is clean and neat and very inviting. I just moved my mother out of this home! I went in for my tour they showed me around and it looks lovley! However they told me there were activities daily, there was a bus to get my mother around if needed. Fine dining? You need to read the add on Fostrian Courts website and then read what is not true. Im going to tell you the facts! They DO NOT have activities daily! In fact I don't think they even have a hired staff for activities because I always see senior companions doing the activities and there is hardly anything for the patients to do at Fostrian Court. There add also says that they have a bus to go on outings. Well my mom never went on any outings and I think the bus has been parked in the same spot for a long while! They DO NOT take the residents anywhere. Genesee Gardens does though my mother loves it there. They go on outings ALL the time! The staff ratio at Fostrian is 2 nurse aides to about 13 to 15 people. So if you think your parents are getting good care that was my mothers number one complaint! One time she said she sat on the toilet for 3 hours! Another time one of the aides yelled at her. Alot of problems at this assisted living! Then we get to the dining room. The food is nothing to talk about. It is NOT fine dining. They have holes in the table clothes, there is one person cooking and waiting on all the patients. Food selection is not good at all. They are probably the nicest of ALL the staff in the dining area. They do put on nice holiday meals though they invited us to eat with my mother. The business office specialist isnt really someone I would put in charge she never seems to have time for the customers. She will act too busy for you most of the time. I have witnessed first hand her being rude to other family members. I was honestly shocked! It is a cheap place to live but all I can say is you are totally getting what you have paid for! The housekeeping is not great at all but what do you expect when you have one housekeeper for the entire building. The building is large, Im sure its hard for her to keep the entire thing tidy. Maintnance is a whole nother issue good luck getting them to help you fix anything. Im not sure if they even have a maintnance person! You will have to ask if you decide to do a tour! I thought this might help alot of people because I really didnt want to move my mother again but I was very dissatisfied. more
