Best

When I think of Fosters I think of the best mac and cheese ever! My father in law HAS to go to Fosters when he comes to North Carolina to visit. We always have to get a pound of t...

Worst

This was the worst dining experience I have had so far in the Triangle. Several people have mentioned this place to me as a good place to take the kids, but I can't imagine why. ...

Great Place for a weekend breakfast 4/7/2006

I love to come to Foster's on the weekend. They got wonderful breakfast, especially the streusel cake is phenomenal. They herb biscuits with cheese are a stomach filler and the coffee is exceptional. Beware - it does get crowded, so if you are alone or just a couple of people, you may want to select one of the smaller tables, because table sharing is standard are Foster's. I find this to be one of the charms of the place. I have to admit, I have never been there for lunch or dinner, but the menu for those times looks also good. During exam time, you will find Duke students completing their take home exams there. But don't worry talking is still allowed and sometimes encouraged - a great stress relief for the students. Give Foster's a try and don't be shy about sharing tables with complete strangers, you may find out that making friends at this place is really easy. more

She may be friends with Martha Stewart, 4/6/2006

but Sara Foster still has a winner with her restaurants. I prefer the one in Durham with its old farmhouse feel. It can be confusing the first time you go because it's not at all clear where to order, where to pay, or even where to sit. But overall the food is consistently great and the staff is generally friendly. The candy selection is nice too. The breakfast burrito is, to quote a friend and avid eater, "top notch." The coffee (and free refills!) are great too. I just really love the atmosphere - both inside and out -- at Foster's. We take all our out-of-town guests here, and after that drive down 15-501 past the strip malls, chain restaurants, and big box stores, they are always surprised to see how nice this place is. Wonderful place to spend a morning with friends. more

A relaxing saturday morning breakfast 9/30/2005

Fosters is a great place to come, relax and enjoy some outside time. It is a market/deli/bakery that has great outdoor seating. It isn't too big, so don't expect to come do a week's worth of shopping, but it has some nice local stuff as well as delicious sandwiches and baked goods. This one is more grocery oriented than the one in Chapel Hill, which is eat-in oriented. A really great place for some small food gifts as well. more

Foster's 8/23/2005

A Durham institution... In addition to freshly-prepared sandwiches, wraps, and soups, Foster's has a fantastic assortment of delicious scones, muffins, cookies, and desserts. While the main menu doesn't change, there is a different special casserole, sandwich, and soup each day or two. Extensive selection of salads and tasty sandwiches (love the jammin' turkey sandwich!), with lots of tempting desserts to choose from. If you need another Foster's fix, pick up one of Sara Foster's great cookbooks or check out their website for recipes. Foster's also has a large array of coffees, teas, and blast-from-the-past candies. Charleston Chew, anyone? more
