The breadth of terrain at Nisene is to be admired. The redwoods are located primarily in the lower regions of this 9,960-acre park. As you get higher, the terrain becomes more arid with chaparral and oaks. Deer, coyote, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, and badgers roam the area, sentries of the wilderness. For views of the Monterey Bay and Big Basin, follow Buzzard Lagoon Road to the 2,132-foot peak.
Directions: Follow State Beach Road north for one-quarter mile from the Seacliff Beach/Aptos exit off Hwy-1. Turn right on Soquel Drive and continue one-half mile to Aptos Creek Road. Turn left and park near the railroad tracks.
