Best

This was a great experience. Everything that we had was wonderful. The atmosphere was as good as the food and service. A find

Worst

I returned to Fore Street after a wonderful dinner one year ago, but I am sorry to report my dining experience this year was less than acceptable. Unfortunately, there was a hair...

Don't believe the hype 9/14/2004

After dining here on three separate occassions and with three different servers I can honestly say this place is highly overrated. Expensive entrees that are only slightly above average in taste are the norm at this over-hyped, metro-wannabe, restaurant. If you are planning on having dinner make sure to pack a sandwich at home, you will be hungry. I am not sure if the wait staff's attitude or the table shared potato and vegetable plate was more of a turn off. Portland and its immediate surroundings have many fine restaurants at lower prices with better food and less obnoxious servers. Pros: Window Views more

Excellent!!! 7/14/2004

Restaurant is very beautiful. Excellent food and service. The ingredients are extremely fresh and the best. I tried the raw oysters, mussels in butter-garlic, vermouth sause, and baby beet and spinach salad for apps. All of them were excellent. The chocolate souffle cake is out of this world. Food can be compared to Gotham Bar & Grill or Pearl Oyster Bar in NYC. Pros: good food, excellent service more

Big Mistake 6/17/2004

My husband and I went to Fore Street to celebrate my birthday. Although we had made reservations weeks in advance for 7:30, we were not seated until 8:30 (with no apologies). Our waitress was absent most of the time. We did not get water or bread until we asked repeatedly. Because we had waited until 8:30 to be seated, we were rushed through dinner (the kitchen closes around 9:30/10:00). We were not offered dessert because the kitchen was closed when we finished our entrees. I have to say this was one of my worst dining experiences. From the dismal service, to the extremely noisy atmosphere, everything about Fore Street was a big mistake. I will never eat there again. Pros: food Cons: , noise, expensive more

Foreplay Street 2/6/2003

I took my date to Fore Street and I have to say the food was better then the sex. TRY the mussells! The Maine staple is cooked in a garlic butter sauce that goes unchallenged in any New York City spot. more

The BEST Maine has to offer! 10/24/2002

I had been dying to try Fore Street Grill for some time, but I knew it was pricy, so I saved it for a special occasion. It was worth the wait! Every aspect of my dinner was superb. They cater to all your senses, creating a cozy, rustic atmosphere from the smell of the wood-fired grill to the intimate seating. The monthly-changing menu is filled with delicious options. I will never forget my dessert--a warm, miniature chocolate souffle with a molten chocolate center sitting on a puddle of vanilla sauce. I impatiently await my next visit to Fore Street Grill! Pros: Excellent waitstaff, Great wine list, Everchanging menu Cons: Pricy, Sometimes busy more

Disappointed 6/23/2002

I returned to Fore Street after a wonderful dinner one year ago, but I am sorry to report my dining experience this year was less than acceptable. Unfortunately, there was a hair in the lobster salad but what made it even worse, the waitress did not seem to know what to do. She in fact asked what should she do ""take it back"". There were no apologies offered by her or the manager. She did replace the salad, hopefully with a new one. No coffee was offered at dessert time. The apple wood aroma was overpowering. more
