I revisited FONGS in Castro Valley fall of 2009..
I was pleasantly surprised to see the new owners have a new chef and menu.
The CV area is been inundated with hot plate 4.99 Asian restaurants up and down the main strip of 94546. But FONGS busts out a brilliant new fusion menu, that is so far from what Castro Valley Natives have seen through those doors since the first owners made a pure mess
of Asian flavor.
THE CHEF AND OWNER OF FONGS - scores high marks.
The dishes are well presented - fresh - amazing flavors that come
right off the grill or wuk..
The Basil Chicken is amazing along with the Orange Peel Beef.
The highlight of THE NEW FONGS are the tasty lunch special made fresh - not off a hot plate.. and all you can eat.
for under 7.00 bucks you pick your dishes off a menu - and each serving is made fresh for you.. as you ask for as many plates
as you like..
This is the only all "you can eat "menu I know of that is NOT served up from a sneeze covered - steam dish counter. Its all Fresh hot cooked, the best in the bay area.
Give the NEW FONGS a try.. forget my original review from a few years back ,, this location has a new life and a very tasty well priced
menu. Vmedia

Old review: (It tastes like it was prepared in a bucket. The other items on the menu are not bad. Its amazing how the basic fan of Dang How never veers from the standard dishes. The service is slow and I would be surprised to see Asian costumers in this place. (store bought products easy to spot). There are other Asian Restaurants in CV worthy of the crowds Dang How gets. I am not sure why the Valley taste hasn't discovered the great Thai and Mandarin places just down the street from this Restaurant. I do not recommend this place.. even if you have the 1/2 off coupon) Vmedia Castro Valley
