Best

I wanted to rave about Flour for a special order they handled. I contacted them to make a birthday cake for a friend and asked for an off-menu selection (red velvet). Not only did...

I walked into Flour and observed a small, clean, unique bakery. My purpose was to inquire and potentially order and purchase multiple full sized cakes. I first noticed three emp...

Around the corner from St. Elsewhere Hospital 7/25/2005

Went on a Sunday afternoon it was busy but we managed to get seating for 4. The food was delicious the Iced Tea was a a strong brew (just like I like it!) The desserts were tasty the sandwiches were good nothing that stands out in memory but I must say that they are flexible to any substiutions you may have... not all restaurants are willing to do this so I commend them on that alone. I had the Roasted Chicken, Tomato Chutney and Goat Cheese (this entree usually comes with the lamb) BF had the roast beef, horseradish, crispy onions and tomato sandwich which was quite delicious as well. Pros: flexible menu, desserts, Iced Tea Cons: hard 2 find parking, tight seating areas more

So close, but so far from being ideal 6/26/2005

Bland sandwiches, rude workers, oh Flour! Why must these keep me from loving you? Maybe it's your Garden of Eden-esque pricing for sandwiches sans sides. C'mon! At least they give a slice of tomato. I really want to like you. Oh, I do. I'm a new neighbor and I want a neighborhood spot, but somehow your uptight workers who can't seem to be bothered with being even slightly cordial most of the time will prevent me from giving you my money. I love your pastries and bread. Your coffee rocks. But your highly-praised sandwiches are bland - fresh - but bland. Do something interesting with them. You may have the lines of people, but you shouldn't just trust that. Pros: Breads, Pastry Cons: Rude workers, Bland sandwiches more

Yummy in my tummy 6/21/2005

Flour lived up to all it's hype! The lamb sandwich was delicious, and everything else on the menu looked equally yummy. I also tried 10 different desserts, and they were all wonderful. The service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend heading down to the South End to try Flour. Pros: sandwiches, desserts more

I LOVE this place! 2/20/2005

My husband and I used to live 2 blocks from Flour. Somehow we just couldn't stay away. Flour makes the best desserts that I have ever had, period. They are not the frech type of fluffy desserts that you find in other bakeries. They are the best cakes, cookies, etc that seem like they must have been old secret family recipes that have been closely guarded for years. The creme brulee, butterscotch pudding, Scharfenberger cookie, and every other dessert are unrivalled anywhere. The BLT sandwich is the best I have ever had. Although there is not enough sitting room in the restaurant we still think that it is well worth the wait and everything there travels very well if you would prefer to take your purchases home. I really can't say enough good things about Flour. You absolutely have to go. Pros: Best desserts, Best sandwich Cons: crowded, little seating more

Delicious! 3/19/2003

Delicious baked goods and rich sweets! The sandwiches at lunch are great and featured on exquisite focaccia. The service isn't rude, but they don't go out of their way to be friendly either... Space is somewhat limited, many patrons share tables, but that adds to the cozy ambience. Overall, I recommend a quick jaunt to South End and indulge yourself to some treats! more

Amazing 2/8/2003

Flour takes all the things you loved when you were young (pop-tarts, oreos, etc) and make their own gourmet renditions. Even their sandwiches are perfected, down to the marinated tomatos and onions. This place is great. more
