Childhood Favorite 8/13/2010

The first time I had food from Flossie's was in late 1989. I was little over a year old. Flossie's was one of my favorite places to eat as a child. The friendly atmosphere and the excellent, mouth-watering food always brought the family together. I always ordered the same meal - fried chicken, mac & cheese, and corn bread. The family would split a cobbler between us. Yum, yum, yum! :-D more

Great food 11/28/2009

Sandra is always welcoming to me and my friends. I have been a loyal customer for years even. I stop by every time i am in town even when i lived in Germany. The oxtails and desserts are my favorite. I would highly recommend. Pros: Great taste, reasonable portions Cons: small dining area more

A True Delight 3/31/2009

Flossie's is a hidden find in every sense of the word - it's definitely hidden, a simple, unassuming storefront sitting in a generic strip mall - and it's definitely a find. I live far away, but have made the drive many a time to get some of their tasty food. From the various sides and desserts to the perfectly cooked chicken, I have never had a bad meal there and doubt I ever will. This is true soul cooking at its best. I've found several places in the area that come close to Flossie's, but none have ever been able to top it, and for that reason, I still make the drive. Pros: Definitely the food Cons: Unusual hours, seating not always available more

Great Soul Food! 5/5/2008

I've found this place on this site when I was looking for a new place to eat around my hood. I drive there everyday and I didn't even know this shopping mall has such a yummy gem! It was so tiny but it looked exactly like this famous soul food place I went in NY. I was looking forward to having some good mac n cheese but the lady in front of me got the last serving and I couldn't get it. I had fried chickens and they were SO juicy and crispy! Since they only have one price (for 1 main dish, 3 sides, biscuits, dessert and drink) which was $11.95 (I think, and the price goes higher on weekends but they'll have more selections), so I can't afford to go there so often as I wish. But I'll definitely want to go back and try other main dishes like meat loaf, fried catfish or BBQs! It's a must try place. Pros: Great food Cons: One price (but still worth it!), tiny place with only a few tables more

The Capital of Soul Food 4/4/2008

This is my first time message and all I have to say is: Flossie's says home cooking like no one else. This restaurant takes the word ""soul food"" to the highest level. Every bite is flavorful, seasoned just right, and makes you go ""um um um."" The meat is tender and seasoned throughout. The yams are the bomb! And the apple and peach cobblers make you want to hug somebody. Even the ice tea has just enough sugar. All I can say is Sandra girl, you've got it going on. Give your cooks and yourself a high five. Keep up the good work. And like Arnold Schwartzenegger, ""I'LL BE BACK!""\r \r Marie more

Flossie's...All that and a cup of ""KOOL-AID""! 3/8/2008

Cafeteria style setup. I've dined here several times and the food was fresh each time. Meals served complete with drink (Kool-Aid) AND dessert in addition to your entree and THREE sides. Chicken is great fried or barbequed. \r \r ****NEWS FLASH**** No longer ""Cash-Only"", Flossies now accepts plastic. I'll drink my Kool-Aid to that! Pros: Kool-Aid Flowing. Now accepts debit cards. Cons: closed on Mondays & Tuesdays more

This is the best soul food in the South Bay area! 2/22/2008

I've been going to Flossie's for 6 years now and I tell everyone I know about it. The food is delicious and will have you craving for more. And they are not at all skimpy on the portions, you will have enough for left-overs. I love that everything is layed out right before your eyes so there is no need to fuss over a menu. Everything that I have tasted there is off the hook! It's like eating at your grandmother's house on Sundays. Pros: You get a meal complete with meat, 3 sides, dessert, and a drink all for one low price! Cons: Accepts cash only and you will most likely want to take your food to go because of the resturant's size. They are also closed on Mondays and close early on other days of the week. more

Southern Soul in Southern California! Umm Umm GOOD! 12/28/2007

It's hard to find good southern food here in So. Cal, look no further than Flossie's! The food is served buffet cafeteria style, hot and delicious. Highlights include the Mac N Cheese, Fried Chicken, and the fabulous potpies. Meals are generous portions of southern faves. I've been to M&M's and Flossie's has them beat hands down. Keep in mind it's a store front restaurant (not a lot of room to dine) so take out is my preference there. Don't forget the sweet tea, kool aid and banana pudding! Your tummy will thank you, your waist line will be mad! I prefer the happy tummy! Pros: The food is king at Flossie's - service is good too! Cons: cash only, small dining area, and the biggest THEY CLOSE AT 8PM TOO EARLY! more

The best southern soul food (The Real Deal) 11/29/2007

I go to Flossies all the time and what I enjoy the most is that the food doesn't taste like tv dinner food, it actually taste like a home cooked meal. I really appreciate Flossies because it has been around a very long time, and alot of people support this black owned business. I remember it was on ch. 9, I also hear alot of stars go in there as well. But to be foreal M&M's is nothing compared to Flossies their macaroni at M&M's taste like it came out the box, but most importantly Flossies is alot more pricier than M&M's but I realized as a life lesson ""you pay for what you get"", and I know I'm getting my money worth at Flossies. Pros: The food, cool-aid, the customer service, in the inner city Cons: Need more Flossies around more

authentic southern cooking 7/19/2006

they don't skimp on the grease or go for any low-cal fads here--this is the real deal. \r \r i love their corn bread and i always have to grab a slice of sweet potato pie every time i come in. they also have this--is it banana?--cream pudding that is delicious too. the food keeps well for take-out too. the place is tiny and is hidden in a strip mall, right by el camino college. very mom-and-pop feel to it. the servers are also really nice. Pros: desserts, mom-and-pop business, authenic southern cooking Cons: small and dark atmosphere more

Customer Service? 7/24/2005

First of all it is VERY dark in Flossies. The last time I went to Flossies I patiently waited in line for about 7 minutes, when I was next, the girl behind the counter promptly looked right over my head and started to take the womans order behind me. I said excuse me but I was next at which point I was told no you werent. she was. Really good food, no doubt about that, but I will not be back as I have never been treated so rudely! more

7.5 12/11/2002

Flossie's Soul food cooking is just like Mom & Grandmom use to make. perhaps it's a little small to eat in. And the customer service of the servers could be a lot better However, the Mac & Cheese, Corn Pudding, and the fried chicken will take your mind into the clouds. more
