Steve with Florida Garage Door Company saved the day after an awful experience with another company. Basically, my husband and I returned home from vacation on a Sunday, and our garage door was malfunctioning. One side wouldn't pull up at all, and the other only came up partially. I had a very important appointment the next day, and my car was trapped, so we had to get someone out right away to fix the problem.
The first place we called was a nightmare. We were quoted one price over the phone, but when the serviceman arrived and installed new springs, he wanted more. We tried to call his superiors, but they didn't answer or call us back. Their 800 number tried to redirect us to a different area code, which was really suspicious, too. By this point, the serviceman was demanding cash, when I was told initially I could pay with a card. I was floored! He said that he would uninstall the springs if I didn't pay, thinking I would acquiesce, I suppose. Well, I didn't, and he uninstalled the springs and left.
After this awful experience, I called Florida Garage Door and Steve was out within the hour. He was just great. He knew exactly what he was doing, and was very professional and nice. The price he quoted was what he charged, and he worked quickly and efficiently. In addition to being upfront, he was also very honest. He told us that we didn't need to replace the wheels on the garage door, that they would hold up for at least another six or seven years. He wouldn't try to fix something that wasn't broken, and that left a great impression.
I was so impressed, in fact, that I typed up a little document about him and gave it to my home owner's association. They keep a running list of service companies that have worked out well for people in the neighborhood, so Steve will definitely get more business as a result. Honestly, if Steve did more than garage doors, I would hire him for everything I need done around the house.
