Dr. Scheel 8/9/2006

Dr. Scheel is a good Pediatrician, when my son was a newborn (many years ago) I had a c-section after many hours of (30) HARD labor...........My son was very sick on his 2nd day of life, throwing up and we didn't know what was wrong, so he had to stay in the nursery rather than room-in with me, as I was heavily medicated for the pain from labor and the consequent c-section. The next morning I found out Dr. Scheel had spent the entire night in the nursery with him, running tests and comforting him, I was back and forth to the nursery off and on all night to see how he was and saw Dr. Scheel a few times but never knew until a few days later when a nurse told me she spent the night sitting with him. He was life-flighted to Miami Children's Hospital where they diagnosed the Meconium Plug Syndrome (which cleared when they did a barium enema to see what was going on) and tested him for CF and treated him for a bile infection and allergic reaction to Carnation formula. he was there 10 days and Dr. Scheel called personally every 2 hours to check on him. Most of her staff is great, there is one nurse practitioner that I do not like, her name is Betsy. She tends to not listen to me as a parent and has often (3-4 times at least) missed ear infections, that I point out to her. My Allergist (Dr. Roberson) or Dr. Scheel has often seen my son the next day and sees it immediately. I also like the fact that Dr. Scheel doesn't over-medicate children but by the same token when my son had to have stitches removed from his face and was terrified (the ER staff at PSL Medical Center traumatized him when he was papoosed for stitches on his lip -- took 5 people to hold down a 2yo in the papoose) she prescribed a mild sedative so that he would sleep through having his stitches out. he was terrified of doctors for 2yrs after the incident at PSL medical center but was less scared of Dr. Scheel and Also Dr Roberson's staff (see my other reviews for Dr Roberson's office). In summary I would recommend Dr. Scheel without reservation, my only issue with the office is Betsy, and the staff knows that I will not see her, and has us see one of the other RNP's or Dr. Scheel. Also Dr. Scheel came highly recommended by Dr. Boland of Women's Health Specialists, and does take Medicaid. more
