  • It all began on a cold November morning in 1969.  A young man who had never preached a sermon was accompanied by his wife, who was six months pregnant, to Florence, South Carolina.  The young couple had no idea what God was about to do but were eager to find out.  The burning desire in Bill Monroes heart was to start a church that would be a blessing to people and bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ.

It turned out that his first sermon would be preached to 18 people in an abandoned theatre building that had a decaying frame structure with red asbestos brick siding peeling off the walls.  The building was rented for $58.50 per month.  The second week there were eight people present.  Struggling as a bi-vocational preacher, he and a few like-minded people began to pray and visit homes even more fervently.  God began to change lives.  On April 9, 1972, the young church relocated to South Irby Street.  Florence Christian School was started that same year.

Since that time, the church and school have continued to grow. At FBT, you will find powerful music from the Choir & Orchestra and Bible preaching at every service. Sunday School is alive, fresh and challenging! Our Addiction Program meets every Friday night at 7:00 pm. Many people have found victory over strongholds in their lfe. At Florence Baptist Temple, many people have found the forgiveness, meaning, and purpose that comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Now, after 45 years, we still have a vision and desire to be a shining light of hope by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Come join us this Sunday morning at 9:00 or 10:30. There is a place for you at FBT!
