My husband and I noticed a small ice cream shop named Flamingo Homemade Ice Cream and Sandwiches on North Beach Street while on our way the DMV in Daytona Beach, FL...what caught our eye was the word ""homemade"" as we do like quality food, not to mention, we do support 'mom and pop shops'...so, we eagerly decided to stop there on our way back home. Not having cash at the time, I happily went in hoping they'd accept plastic, my husband waited in the van...there was a customer being served when I walked in and no one behind me...when it was my turn to be served, I asked her if she accepted credit cards...she answered no...I told the lady that we were new to the area, that we just now happened upon her business through our travels and that we were excited to have ""homemade"" ice cream available so close to home...this took all but 10 seconds to say and then I asked a couple of questions...1. Do you make homemade ice cream sandwiches? 2. Is everything homemade? The woman behind the counter seemed to become a bit annoyed with me and my interest in the product...so much so, that I was surprised when she gave me a sample of her mint n chip...as she was digging my sample, I notice a flavor that I had never heard before, rum raisin! OH BOY...would my husband like to try that, he loves raisins! I told the lady I will go get my hubby out of the sweltering hot van and her reply was to bring him back next time...the mint n chip was tasty...for sure we would be back! (eh...maybe she was having a bad day)
Ah, a couple of days later, we go back and go in together...our mouths were watering for some homemade ice cream...so, my hubby orders first because they are now out of the mint n chip and he gets a single of the rum raisin while I decide on a different flavor, now, from very sparse selections because she has not made any ice cream because she has to clean the display freezers...as my husband was telling the lady what flavor he wanted, a man walks in behind us and she greats him as though she knows him, ok, so, she didn't hear my hubby's order and he repeats himself...the lady gets out a little 'kiddie cone' about 4"" tall and is about ready to scoop and my hubby asks her for a waffle cone and she said, no waffle cones, didn't get around to making them...she finishes my hubby's order, then, she totally forgot about me by concerning herself with her familiar man that walked in behind us...so, after reminding her that I hadn't ordered yet, I got the peanut butter and chocolate single...my hubby's ice cream was almost half gone by the time she was scooping mine...I asked my hubby how his ice cream was and he told me he tastes the rum...so, after she prepares my 'kiddie cone', she hands it to me, the ice cream is falling apart, pieces are dropping off on the floor, she tells me that I am going to have to deal with it like that, I take it from her and ice cream (not dripping from melting but little pieces of ice cream) is falling on my feet melting between my toes and the bottom of my feet in my sandals! My husband and I are very disappointed, not only for the ONE raisin that he so luckily got in his 'kiddie scoop' of ice cream but the fact that we spent a total $6.37 for 2 kiddie cones and bad service...Breyers ice cream is much better and can be purchased at Wal-Mart for just around $3.00 for 1.5 quarts without the bad attitude...badly done Flamingo, badly done...
