I had a wonderful meal here 12/3/2010

I had a wonderful meal here this evening and am baffled by all the negative comments about this place. I almost did not go because of them. I used to eat there in the early 1990's and always enjoyed it. And I enjoyed it again. We went for Sunday night dinner at 6:45 and even the baked potatoes were fresh. The legendary bread basket with warm popovers did not disappoint. Also in the basket are yummy corn and bran muffins as well as pumpernickel raisin rolls. The $19.95 dinner special is well worth the money and even better with the buy 1 get 1/2 off the second coupon in the Queens Tribune. Dinner also includes a choice of 3 appetizers. We had the stuffed mushrooms (2 in an order). They were huge and the crab meat stuffing was excellent. Choice of soup or salad, We had salads that were crisp and green with cucumbers and grape tomatoes. My husband had Greek salad with feta and Greek olives. I had Romanian Tenderloin that was perfectly cooked and delicious and my husband had Pork Chops, also flavorful. We had perfectly cooked potatoes and creamed spinach that was excellent. Although we had our included cup of coffee which was fresh and very good, we took our dessert home. We just finished a chocolate horn that was to die for. It was light and flaky and buttery and chocolaty. We also had a chocolate cupcake. The frosting was great but the cupcake was dry. The horn was by far the better dessert. We took home enough leftovers for another meal. The total check was $33 with the coupon and we left our very efficient waitress an $8 tip. We will definitely go back again. I suggest you ignore the negative comments and give this diner a chance. It is a very good neighborhood diner. It is not a gourmet restaurant, but the food is well prepared and flavorful The only thing negative we have to say is that the decor, especially the booths, could use some sprucing up. They are offering a home delivered Thanksgiving feast for 10-12 people or $145. It sounds like an awesome deal, for less than $20 a person. My mother-in-law was a diner waitress for 50 years and my husband put himself thru school as a diner waiter. Trust us, we know a good diner when we eat in one. more

The food is good and the staff is awesome 11/29/2010

I don't know how or why Flagship has bad reviews? It is great I've been eating there for 4 years all the time. The food is good and the wait staff are awesome. So people go there and try the Gyro the best Gyro in Queens. Take it from a Marine it is always faithfull flagship. more

Everyone should give this place a shot 11/23/2010

This was a pretty good experience. The atmosphere is unlike any other that I have been in. The place was an old Greek style diner that was beautifully maintained. The staff was very polite, friendly, and provided great service. The food was pretty good also. One of the many specials for the day was a Cup of soup and half a Corned Beef Sandwich. I decided that the special was just right for me and ordered it with Clam Chowder and whole wheat toast for my sandwich. The sandwich also came with a large pickle slice and coleslaw. The clam chowder was one of the best that I have ever had. It was obviously made in the kitchen and was not some pre-made bulk item that came in a truck. My Corned Beef Sandwich cam out shortly after the soup and was piled nice and high with thick cut corned beef. My only knock on the sandwich was that, unlike the corned beef I have had at home, this one was slightly on the dry side. The flavor however was great and the sandwich was very satisfying. The pickle and coleslaw was quite good also. It was a type that I don't typically care for but in this case, I cleaned out the bowl. Bottom line is that if you are ever in the area, give this place a shot. They have a wonderful selection on the menu and the bakery below run by the restaurant just adds to the number of items that are available. more

super-friendly waitstaff 11/19/2010

grew up in briarwood, i am back in the neighborhood weekly and hit the flagship every three weeks or so. as long as you keep it simple, you cant really go wrong. fresh juicy hrnd formed burger, juicy and delicious. omelettes fine as well. challah french toast really kills. lobster bique soup is surprisingly good too. try a monte cristo sandwich if youre in starving for brunch. the seafood is usually decent as well. grilled salmon has always been good by my wife's standards. super-friendly waitstaff. more
