I had a wonderful meal here this evening and am baffled by all the negative comments about this place. I almost did not go because of them. I used to eat there in the early 1990's and always enjoyed it.
And I enjoyed it again. We went for Sunday night dinner at 6:45 and even the baked potatoes were fresh. The legendary bread basket with warm popovers did not disappoint. Also in the basket are yummy corn and bran muffins as well as pumpernickel raisin rolls. The $19.95 dinner special is well worth the money and even better with the buy 1 get 1/2 off the second coupon in the Queens Tribune. Dinner also includes a choice of 3 appetizers. We had the stuffed mushrooms (2 in an order). They were huge and the crab meat stuffing was excellent. Choice of soup or salad, We had salads that were crisp and green with cucumbers and grape tomatoes. My husband had Greek salad with feta and Greek olives. I had Romanian Tenderloin that was perfectly cooked and delicious and my husband had Pork Chops, also flavorful. We had perfectly cooked potatoes and creamed spinach that was excellent. Although we had our included cup of coffee which was fresh and very good, we took our dessert home. We just finished a chocolate horn that was to die for. It was light and flaky and buttery and chocolaty. We also had a chocolate cupcake. The frosting was great but the cupcake was dry. The horn was by far the better dessert. We took home enough leftovers for another meal. The total check was $33 with the coupon and we left our very efficient waitress an $8 tip. We will definitely go back again. I suggest you ignore the negative comments and give this diner a chance. It is a very good neighborhood diner. It is not a gourmet restaurant, but the food is well prepared and flavorful The only thing negative we have to say is that the decor, especially the booths, could use some sprucing up. They are offering a home delivered Thanksgiving feast for 10-12 people or $145. It sounds like an awesome deal, for less than $20 a person. My mother-in-law was a di
