The Scene
Five Rivers takes the job of interpreting nature seriously, providing many free educational programs and guided tours. Clearly marked trails run through diverse habitats, including wetlands, valley fields and hardwood forests.
What to Do
Keep an eye out for wild turkeys and deer while hiking. The Interpretive Building includes rotating wildlife-related exhibits, a gift shop and a window that overlooks a bird-feeding station. Visit after 1pm if you want to avoid busloads of hollering eight-year-olds on field trips. One trail is equipped with boardwalks for handicapped accessibility.
What to Bring
There are picnic areas scattered throughout the park. Open flame and grills are off-limits, though, so replace the burgers with cold cuts. ?Ron Gilmour
