I am writing this review because First Merit customer service irritated me today. Thirty five months ago I put my daughters money into a CD, on her 18th birthday she was to take her driver's license down and get her money. I called in advance to make an appointment so we could transfer it into a checking account.
There was an error on the banks part and they set it for thirty months instead and did not contact me since I was custodian of the CD. It rolled over five months ago and now she cannot get it until she turns 21 unless she wants to pay a penalty, which they said would be large if she removed the entire amount.
This CD was a purposeful investment, the money is for her to buy a nice used car. Now it is just going to sit, for other reasons this is a good thing in a way, but now that the boyfriend is out of the picture it would have been a nice birthday present.
I have a real problem with institutions making errors and consumer's paying the price for their error.
