You always have to wonder what you can rely on when it comes to reviews because the negative ones can seem much more convincing than the positive ones. In this case, I am glad that I did not read the reviews on City Search because that may have led me to not hire these guys.
I decided to use Craig's List to advertise for the moving of my items from storage to another property. I'm not gonna lie - I got a LOT of offers, many of which I determined were too good to be true. (And you have to be careful these days)
Mr. Hinnant e-mailed me a price quote which was in the middle of the price range of the offers that I had been given. What gave him the edge is that his website contains the NC Lic#, which I verified was legit at the North Carolina Utilities Commission's website (it is). This made me feel more comfortable than hiring Handy Randy to move my stuff.
The men arrived on time and were very courteous. We had one snag early on -- I was given a quote for the move, but when the actual workload was evaluated, I was notified that the amount of stuff that I had to move would exceed a certain block of time. I was initially frustrated because I thought that the quote was firm (as I had requested in my ad), and I also didn't realize that when I stated that the move should not exceed more than four hours, that that was locking me into a four hour window for the price.
Now, after reading all of this you may be wondering why they got a good review. Simply put, at the end of the day, I walked away extremely happy and satisfied, and I felt that the movers had truly earned every penny that they had been paid, including their tip. Even with the ""price adjustment"" (which in all fairness was not unreasonable - the storage unit was a 10' x 10' space that was jammed to the rafters, and the actual move, including transportation, took twice as long as I had anticipated; truthfully, I would have been really cruddy to have paid them anything less that what I did, because fair work deserves fair pay), the price was a great bargain and they friendly, professional, and efficient attitudes of the movers were really appreciated! Sometimes it seems to be really hard to find people to work for you who don't have stinky attitudes!
So, the crux of all of this is: this was a good experience and I would use them again. To make the road even smoother, however, I will try to get an accurate price quote either by having a pre-move inspection, or by making some provision that would place a cap on a re-estimation quote if the move is significantly increased in time and complexity like this one was.
So, at the end of the day, every single moving company/vendor/business is going to have good reviews and bad reviews. That's life. But for me, I'm just grateful that my experience turned out to be such a positive one for me. Hope you have the same good luck, too!
Happy moving!
