Let me preface this by saying that I am young, female, and don't know a ton about cars... and Firestone absolutely tried to take advantage.\r
\r
I went in for a cheapie oil change and ""free"" tire rotation (I had a coupon for both).\r
\r
I never even got the tire rotation, as they told me I wasn't ""due"" for one yet (nevermind that I've had the car for a year, put quite a few miles on it, and never had them rotated). Instead I was told that if I returned to Firestone for my NEXT oil change, I'd be ""due"" for rotation then.\r
\r
While I was there, I asked the mechanic to look at my belts, as I thought one needed to be replaced.\r
\r
He came out and quoted me $800 in additional repairs (claiming that I had a leak in my power steering pump and another one in the steering_rack, that they ""had to put a little pinhole in"" to check it, and that it ""shouldn't have passed inspection"" in April). I had just taken the car on a road trip a week prior, had NO steering problems, and hadn't noticed any leaks.\r
\r
I also found it a little strange that after quoting me all of these repairs, the only one he would give me IN WRITING was the serpentine belt, saying that he couldn't give me a written estimate on the rest because, ""I don't have the exact prices."" The whole thing seemed suspicious.\r
\r
So I took the car elsewhere (First Automotive) and had THEM replace the belt... When they were finished, I asked if they had seen any leaks, and was told, ""There is absolutely nothing leaking, your car is fine. The mechanic who worked on it is very thorough. It was just the belt.""\r
\r
So basically, Firestone flat-out lied and tried to take me for $800. And the person I dealt with there was the MANAGER. Please don't give these scam artists any more business.
Pros: Cheap oil change promo
Cons: Almost cost me $800 in unnecessary repairs
