Of course you are looking at this review after you suspect a problem, and not before.\r
Sorry about that, I wrote this review after having the problem, never having read them before too!\r
\r
Well I went into Firestone in Goodlettsville, TN. I knew my car was having problems with the power steering. They advised it needed a new power steering pump and a new steeringrack and pinion.\r
\r
Well its quite common to need a new power steering pump on a Ford Windstar, not as common to need a new steeringrack and pinion, and why would you need both?\r
\r
Their estimate was $950 so I said no. I took the van back. I ordered the parts they said I needed off e-bay. I had mechanics that advertise on Craiglist bid out the job. Total cost for parts and labor was $275. Quite a savings.\r
\r
I also would have saved a lot of money, if I had simply replaced the power steering pump. Because I had already ordered a steeringrack and pinion and bid out the job, I went ahead and had it done. but the mechanic said afterwords, he didn't understand why I had that replaced, it only needed the power steering pump.\r
\r
I saved quite a bit of money by not going to Firestone, ($950 vs $275), but I would have saved even more money had I completely ignored everything Firestone had said and only replaced the power steering pump, which was the real problem.
Pros: Hours
Cons: Recommended unneeded repairs
