Went there last night with a group of six and everything was absolutely fantastic! It was a Sunday night so it was a very chill atmosphere. We ordered a few appetizers which cam...

Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the atti...

Worst experience I have EVER had 4/4/2006

Firefly was the worst experience I have EVER had - in my entire life. Here is why - the door guy is angry, the ""hipster"" cocktail waiter is slow and irritable, the bald headed manager is arrogant, slimy, unhelpful and unfriendly. We had dinner reservations for 8 (young hot LA types) and they rushed us through dinner made us feel uncomfortable & unwanted. The SEVICE was ghastly and even worse than the service was the management, who needs to kindly remind himself that he is a bar manager and not the President of the United Nations. I am not a celebrity, but I DO deserve to be treated with respect while I spend $300+++ on dinner and drinks. I NEVER review restaurants, but this was so bad that I want to warn you...dont go!!! Try Magnolia, Cobra Lily, or Citizen Smith instead. Cons: service, managment, price more

Are you kidding me? 4/4/2006

To begin, the valet made my girlfriend walk a block plus in the rain to where he parked the car when she had forgotten her cell phone. The bar atmosphere was great and the cocktail waitress was very attentive to offset the weak drinks. Once seated for dinner the service at dinner was horrible, however, as our waitress neither presented a wine list nor checked on us until an hour had passed between appetizers and entrees. Since we had a group of seven people total the gratuity was included in the final tally. Not the standard 15% for decent service (which it was not) or even 18% for very good service. It was an automatic 20% for incredibly sub-par service. One would expect even appreciable service when spending as much as we did at Firefly. Tips are earned. I will definitely never go back and was highly disappointed. Pros: Ambience Cons: Poor service, weak drinks, bad valet more

Non-smokers Beware 2/20/2006

Food and atmosphere is absolutely top-notch, however, a complete dinner for two is about $150 (with one appetizer, entrees, dessert, wine and coffee), which can be completely killed by the crowd of smokers at the bar. While the review above says that it's an outdoor patio, there's two key things that must be noted: when it rains (as it did when we went), they 'tent' the outdoors, so air (and smoke) stays in. Second, and more important, is that the amount of space between the smoking-allowed bar and the smoking-not-allowed dining tables is about three feet. We were unfortunate enough to sit right next to a crowd of about five chain-smokers, which really ruined our dinner (the food, admittedly, was phenomenal). Pros: Great Decor, Amazing Food Cons: Smoke-filled dining more

Good atmosphere....but don't stay for dinner 1/27/2006

This is a very good place as far as bar and inside decor. It has a cozy atmosphere and a nice fireplace....but so unappealing as far as menu selection, and food quality is dismal and bland. It's a good place to have drinks, but I would stay away from the restaurant. Atmosphere=9 out of 10 .............Food=3 more

Firefly is sensational! 12/12/2005

I can't say enough good things about this place! My boyfriend surprised me with a night out at Firefly and I have to say, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in LA. The server was very warm and capable. She had a great grasp of both the menu and wine list and helped us pick out both food and wine selections which we loved. I will definitely be going back for the shank and the chocolate bread pudding. Yum! You gotta try this place. Pros: friendly, great food/wine, people watching more

Bad attitude 12/5/2005

Managers & wait staff has extremely snooty attitude. However, food was good. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: Attitude, Services more

Disappointed 12/2/2005

Snooty service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked for the outside heater and the manager asked me to say ""please."" Also, my boy friend asked to have dinner on the patio area, they flat out refused. So rude!!!! We asked for the bottle of wine, thinking the weitress would bring winelist first but she brought Spanish white wine without asking us. My money would have been better spent in other places. more

Best food in the valley 10/31/2005

My husband and i are regulars at Firefly and we continue to believe that it is the place for the best food in the valley. We love the ambience and their ""farm-to-table"" emphasis on cuisine. If you haven't been, you have to go! The Kobe culotte and chocolate semifreddo are two great new additions to the menu, but really anything is a safe bet. The service staff is always helpful and we always leave thoroughly satisfied with our dining experience. Pros: food, service Cons: loud, cannot accomidate lar more

I don't go into the valley that much, but finally did on a friend's insistence that she loves this place. I was a bit reluctant at first, because I didn't want to trek up the hill, but the food and atmosphere were well worth the trip! I am glad she was with me because the restaurant has no sign and would've been hard to find. At any rate, we had a great time. The service was casual and warm...and so was the food...no pretense at all! I had an amazing prawn dish and an endive salad . We were both pretty full but decided to split dessert because the rest of the meal had been so good--that also was not to be missed. Well, I'd be happy to go back to Firefly any night ...The next time I whine about having to go into the Valley, I'll think twice. Pros: food, ambience, people watching Cons: hard to spot more

My date loved it 10/12/2005

Short and sweet: - street parking but hard to find. Valet was professional and with a small tip, looked after my car. - reservation process was excellent and very professional - Host, bartender, waiter, were all very professional, polite, patient, and helpful - lounge area was rather small, but bar space was OK. - Wide selection of food, prices much reasonable for such a trendy place - Wine list limited but fair range of prices - decor and crowd was very upscale casual. People seemed to have a good time with their friends and dates. - very nice place overall and had a very good time. Highly recommended to people who appreciate their privacy and having a good time. No weird scenes, no weird people. Pros: Service, Crowd, Trendy & Hip Cons: Lounge small more

lovely, lovely food 10/6/2005

I went to Firefly for the second time the other night after not having been in quite some time. The food was good before, but with the addition of their new chef, things have really reached a new level! The whole experience was fantastic..loved the mussels and the dessert special. The atmosphere is really relaxed and we were having such a good time that after dinner we hung out in the bar and had another couple glasses of wine. It can get a bit loud on the patio, but aside from that the evening was perfect. Pros: food, wine, service more

Salty food but great atmosphere 10/2/2005

The decor and atmosphere is really nice. The bar scene was actually good as well but the food was salty and not worth the trip. This is a great place just to hang out and have drinks. Would recommend you to grab a bite somewhere else. Pros: drinks, bar scene, decor Cons: food more

New menu is wonderful 9/24/2005

I had not been in over 6 months and when I return I discovered an exceptional new menu had been created! My palate enjoyed every mouthful from start to finish. The fish I had was cooked to perfection. My dining partner enjoyed a ""chicken cake"" dish made with lemon grass --it was great. With a completely new menu, I am need to go back often to work my way through it! And did I mention...a great place for a romantic evening! more

Phenomenal! 9/22/2005

I had dinner here the other night, and the entire experience was excellent. From the minute we were greeted by the friendly hostess and bartender, to the time we left - everything was amazing. The service was just right and our waiter was knowledgeable and courteous. The ambience was incredible! The dining area is outside with an entire candlelit wall keeping those at the canopy tables flooded in soft light. For the rest of us, there is a large brick fireplace in the center of the patio to keep diners warm. And of course, the food... Impeccable. A must try are the lightly fried olives with garlic aioli. For entrees, we both had the specials, but the other dishes looked delicious and all are fairly priced which won't break the bank. I highly reccommend this restaurant, especially for a romantic dinner - Make reservations though.... Top notch all the way. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: None! more

Great scene and great food! 9/20/2005

A group of friends and I ventured out to Firefly the other night for dinner and were extremely impressed! The staff was warm and attentive and the food was great! We shared a bottle of the Charbono Rose which was a rare treat with our cheese plate. I loved that they had honeycombs on there!! Better yet was my entree; The roasted chanterelle mushrooms were amazing! The only problem was that it took a bit too long between courses, but our server made up for it by buying our dessert. The baked Alaska special was amazing! Pros: food, ambience more

Two days in the valley... 9/18/2005

I've lived in Los Angeles for 26 years and I've only been to the valley twice. Once, in '79 I went to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour in Sherman Oaks. I ordered The Zoo...or was it the Pig's Trough...no matter...all I know is I ate ice cream for what seemed like the better part of an afternoon. Then I got real sick. It was worth it though. But when Farrell's closed up shop, I sort of took it personally, and I vowed never to return to the valley again. I held out for twenty six years before breaking that adolescent promise last week. Firefly was worth the wait in every way...a veritable Farrell's for big kids, minus the maraschinos and the jawbreakers. One look at the hunky manager, however, provided enough eye-candy to satisfy even my most ravenous sweet-tooth. Mmm...mmmm...good!!! That's all I can say. more

chef's using cookie cutter 9/9/2005

can't help but notice that the new chef has butchered the menu. I have noticed that the items on this menu have been done over and over at all of her, or is it his past few venues...is there any creativity left at all? Bar scene is lively and people watching is great! I was really hoping however that the new chef could muster at least a couple of new,and hopefully tasty items. Come on chef...we're waiting! Pros: ambiance, bar, patio Cons: new chef, one dimensional menu, no large parties? more

SMALL TABLES / BIG THUMBS UP 8/18/2005

I love this place, I went to dinner with friends last night and it was so refreshing to not have tables of 15 bachelor type parties with loud, rude, incondiderate people next to you. I think the largest table in there was 5 people and it was perfect. You can actually hear your own conversation at dinner and not have to shout over loud parties or loud music. The waitstaff was attentive without checking in with me every second then disapearing when it was time to pay the bill. The food is EXCELLENT and the atmosphere even better. My recommendations are the steak, the BLT salad, the figs, and any special they have. I would come back here every night if I could. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Bar more

Bad food, fun bar 8/15/2005

Wow, this place has gone from a great bar and restaurant to just a great place to have a drink. The food was very good when it first opened a couple years ago and now just passes as mediocre...I know they told me at one point they were working over the menu to focus on quality instead of quantity (funny as they only had a one-page menu) and it just didn't happen for them... Pros: bar scene Cons: food more

Not worth the stop! 8/4/2005

I heard that Firefly was a great spot in the Valley and have given it a few tries...every time I am disappointed! The lounge and bar are extremely small and there's never a spot to sit, the food is bland and the food service is horrendous! You have to beg for a water-refill, bread, etc. Firefly is totally over-rated! Cons: small bar, bland food, slow food service more
