Beautiful and unique, but too expensive for me 12/2/2006

I had a great time browsing in Fire Opal, but was disapointed with the high prices. The store has a strong NYC artsy vibe which I loved, and some truly unique items. My favorite was the candle sticks made out of bicycle parts. If you had the cash, this would be a great place to get a one of a kind wedding gift or some eye catching art for your walls. The staff was friendly and lets me browse and handle things for as long as I wanted, unfortunately since most of their items were out of my price range, I didn't really want to browse for very long. Worth the visit, but I'm not sure it's worth the prices they are charging. more

Eclectic selection of terrific gifts 7/3/2006

Looking for a gift for that hard-to-please woman? Fireopal in Jamaica Plain is a terrific option. Filled with a variety of unique jewelry pieces, home decor items, and art (I'm definitely leaving some items out because there are many), Fireopal is unique because the selection is largely created by independent artisans. Many of their items come in vibrant colors, great to spice up an outfit or even a room in your house. Their prices are fair considering that they don't sell a whole lot of mass-produced items. Fireopal has become a longtime favorite for JP shoppers! more

Nice to look, but you need deep pockets. 8/17/2005

Note: this place has moved to Centre St -- please change the listing! A fun place to browse, and a beautiful beautiful store. The ambience is very SoHo. Fascinating things to discover that you've seen nowhere else -- cool ceramic plates, clocks, stuff to hang on the wall, jewelry, etc. The things here are expensive -- surprisingly so. You see something nice, think about buying it, but then realize it's like $400. I worry about this place -- I think if they could offer lower prices they would sell a lot more. Who knows -- maybe a lot of people do fork over the cash. I hope so, because it's a great place to browse. more
